2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

Yeah they have all of them and yet still finished below us when we had Keane as our 4th choice and making 14 appearances.

Under Moyes he made 5 appearances and we got 12 points.
But that goes against the narrative.... Every CB makes a mistake, Tarky and Branthwaite both had them last year - Keane has a shade more. The only game he was truly shocking was the late entry v City. He's fourth choice, lower wages, no capital outlay...

As things currently stand, and given Moyes’s preferred line up (which I think he’ll retain next season regardless of who comes in at right back), we are one injury away from Keane starting every game at CB. One.

Mykolenko, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, OBrien.

One injury in the middle and Keane is back in. Perhaps at best two if we move OBrien over and play a right back we don’t have yet.

4th choice though, 4th choice.

If JB or Tarkwoski pulls a hammy in pre season then Keane starts opening day. If either do a ligament on 1st September then Keane plays all season. 4th choice though so don’t worry.

I hate Keane but you have made me want him to sign a 10 year deal and start every game.

He’s fourth choice though lads, fourth choice. We get it ffs.

All Season? - then relegation is almost certain.

I will vault every single person that said they are happy with him being 4th choice and burn them at the stake.

And if Pickford's arm falls off we'll be playing Harry Tyrer. What's your point?

Goalkeeper injuries are far less likely than outfield player injuries. People are talking as though it’s highly unlikely to happen, we finished the season with Tarkwoski and Branthwaite both injured. We started the season with Branthwaite injured. It’s quite likely that Keane will play a significant number of games next season and in my opinion he’s nowhere near good enough to be playing PL football.

Well none of that makes any sense but ok

Do you think he’s good enough to be playing? It’s that simple. If not then why have we just extended him?

The thing is mate, Tarkis rarely injured and you have 2 other options as well.

I really don't think people are saying it's unlikely that he'll ever have to play. What they mean when they say he's 4th choice isn't that he'll never step on the pitch it's that you're not going to (and don't need to) bring somebody in who's loads better to fulfil that role. If you put aside all the hysteria then he just isn't really a worse player than James Hill, Ben Mee, Jorge Cuenca, Willy Boly etc who had that role for the sides finishing in the sort of positions we're realistically aiming for this season. He's a bit crap, but midtable sides have crap players as their back up options, it's as simple as that really. Nobody wants that to be the case, it just is.

We’ll see. We had a decent season for that group of player in 23/24 because Keane was finally sidelined and kept out the team. There’s a correlation between how little we see of him and how good our form is. His performances in the 4 games to start last season were some of the worst I’ve ever seen.

I won’t argue with a lot of that but if we’re honest he’s had some truly awful games for us , or rather some truly awful errors leading to goals not like one every 10 appearances . I’ve no desire to remember and list them all but hes been far from a regulation centre half .

Keane seems like a decent lad , despite my comments I’m not massively opposed to him getting the extension as the manager seems to rate him higher than some & get a bit more out of him so it potentially makes financial sense .

There are games , like Newcastle where he’s done well and I hope every appearance we see from the fella is that level . However , and this isn’t directed at you but generally , I’m not having the new line that he’s been at worst average and made similar mistakes to others .

No, I’d rather we did something else, but there is nothing I can do so I’m not gonna cry about it 600 times on the internet.

I’ll do that about Jack Harrison instead.
