Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Purchases will be at a minimum and mostly in the last week of the window to keep down wages.

Moyes is a master of managing expectation. For all the talk of the necessity for a lot of new faces this will be a typical Everton window. There'll be one promoted from within the club (Armstrong), re-signed players, and maybe three in.
Does this include loan players and free agents ?

Difference is that Hibbert and Neville were actually miles better than what we have now. Neville gets in the team in either full back position or in midfield. Hibbert walks in at right back and I’d rather see him at CB than Michael Keane.

I don’t mind a utility player that can actually do a job. We’re actively keeping players who we know aren’t good enough to do any job now.

If we have a few injuries or suspensions next season and the start of the team sheet reads Coleman and Keane then it’s open season for whoever is playing down the opposition left flank.
Hmm. Not sure about that. Hibbert and Neville were poor. Although, it was perhaps exacerbated by the fact that the rest of the team was very good when they were here.

Neville was often out of position at RB and couldn't cross to save his life. Still have nightmares about those loopy miss-hit crosses. In centre midfield he was not as good as either Carsley or Gravesen. Good at pointing though!

Hibbert was an excellent tackler, but poor in the air and far too slow and could not pass a ball to save his life. Always blew my mind that he started out as a midfielder given how bad he was on the ball.

But totally agree with your last point. Have ro avoid that situation.

Hibbert should of went after the Chelsea cup final imo

That was the standard back then. Now we’re congratulating the club for extending a centre back that most fans recognise isn’t actually good enough to be playing premier league football. Nice lad though, so what does it matter, it’s only 4th choice, can’t half hit a shot as well..sometimes…..70k a week well spent.

I don’t disagree although I don’t think we have had any positive standards since the 80’s probably. Hibberts best season was 2004/2005 and another one who long outstayed their welcome.

I don’t blame the players for this stuff, good luck to them, I blame the club .

I think this is an issue with Moyes though. He is a good coach and a good manager, but he has a conservative streak running through him a mile wide. He has always had players in the team who got in the side more for their attitude, than their ability - Hibbert and Neville were two examples.

It's one of the things that will have prevented him getting a decent crack at a big club. Top managers would not play players who are completely bereft of ability on attitude alone. I know you can swing it back round and point out the level of club we are and have been for some time, so invariably won't have the most talented players. But you don’t break that cycle by continuing to employ terrible footballers, particularly when we have an unprecedented chance for a reset.

And we all know Moyes will play these lads a lot. Look at how often he selected Doucoure at the end of the season when, one winning goal (but not performance) aside, he absolutely stunk the gaff out. And Moyes offered him a new deal. Had we have kept him, he would have been playing most weeks, we know that.

Moyes is a good manager, but sometimes he does need saving from himself a little. I just hope this transfer committee is strong enough to minimise the chance of that.
Phil Neville was a much better player than many give him credit for , and certainly better than many we have had since , and still possess. He also brought leadership and covered a number of positions , and certainly made the absolute most of what ability he had. Wouldn't mind a couple like that coming in during this window as we are so short on numbers currently.

I agree but they would get slaughtered on here.

Fortunately GOT has no influence on the clubs transfer or playing activities.

He didn't have a pot to piss when last here. That is why he played certain players
