2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

I know, but usually it's followed in pretty quick order by an official announcement. It's been five hours now and nothing.

I'm just grasping at straws here, I'm still in the denial phase of grief!

Waiting to get the Harrison deal complete so they can they do an Oasis style signed photo

I assumed it because we have been here many times before, the same kind of narratives and justification . Players long overstayed their welcome, then the sentiment kicks in and people call for them to stay because they had half a dozen decent games in about three years and a nice goal or two.

It’s got us absolutely no where
What would you have done this year instead?

Spending actual money on a CB when we can barely score goals seems daft to me when we’ve got 3 very good ones. I also don’t think many people are particularly pleased he’s stayed, it’s more acknowledging that it’s a necessity when we’ve got limited funds.

I would have looked ahead as early as January for the summer , get the age of the squad down further, look for the next JB, younger players to learn and be around the first team squad for a year or so, plan for the future. Scout the championship and below especially.

The likes of Keane are just negative reminders of what has transpired.

And you’re right we do need goals because it’s been awful, a good striker and winger are a must.

Signing Keane as a fourth choice center back is a no brainer. We have three center backs ahead of him, and there isn't a single free agent who is 1. better than him, 2. liable to be happy with the role available, and 3. not a big injury risk. To get anyone better, you'll have to pay a transfer fee of at least a few million.

Again, we have Branthwaite and O'Brien with Tarkowski probably returning early in the season, and the just team promoted the extension of Eli Campbell with a quote about looking to get into the first team. If Campbell has a good summer, he can become our Jake O'Brien on the left, able to cover for both Mykolenko and Branthwaite.

If we can sign Keane on a reduced wage, it's cheap security. If we want something better, then we're better off spending money for someone who can compete for a spot now or in the future.
