2024/25 James Garner

I get some of the criticisms and I do want Garner to push on and become a bigger cog in the wheel, but I would rather he be aggressively average and an athlete with decent height than aggressively average and a shrimp like Delph. We could be much worse off.
I know he's sort of technically an athlete due to his job, but that is a very strange word to choose to describe him. He's not someone I would describe as an athlete in a footballing sense at all.

Think he’s fairly quick in fairness Garner. Certainly for a centre mid.

He’s slight though and certainly not strong enough on the ball.

I know Garner isn't everyones favorite but if you look at the ratios of wins when he came back from injury after Christmas compared to before it was a important return( I know there was many other factors after Christmas moyes etc) but his off the ball work was really good this year.

He’s just a very average centre mid in the prem isn’t he. 15-20th, probably stays in the prem most of his career. If he got relegated somewhere you wouldn’t be shocked if he saw it out in the championship though.

I hope he kicks on and really starts to take games by the scruff of the neck, because he’s better than the above on his better days.

He’s anonymous too often though. And his dead ball delivery has been terrible for someone who strikes a ball like he does.

This. Does lots of tidy stuff that goes unnoticed by many but being available for a pass and then moving it on is more than useful, especially when you consider how slow we were in possession under Dyche when he was injured.

Will he be a regular starter this season? Possibly not, but I'd rather have him as a squad player than some of the dross we have had in recent years.

Well he’s 2nd choice on the left and at number 10, and Moyes wants 2 right wingers, one who will be first choice and another who can maybe play in a few positions. So he definitely won’t start if everyone is fit
I don’t think we know what sort of a squad we will have when the season starts so to say anyone definitely won’t start is being very premature.

Ffs are you related to McNeil, so you think he starts on the left ahead of Ndiaye ? Not a chance and Acaraz is better in the 10 and we will definitely buy a better right winger, you believe what you want.

Some of the criticism is over the top.
Like McNeil, he's a steady PL player.
Not the best or worst in his position.
He's still only 24, plenty of time to improve with a bit of stability at the club.
We’re no longer sentimental FC though, so we will be moving on from players who aren’t good enough and that includes McNeil, he’s 26 in November

He was one of the fastest in the league a couple of seasons ago.

A 6/10 player with the odd superior performance. Good squad player.

Remember, Moyes is manager.

He'll probably love McNeil like he used to love Osman.

I think we should try to move him on next summer. He's a bottom half player and probably needs to be the main man.

Completely agree

You need to have a squad and part of that includes players who play about 15 games a season to a certain standard and don’t cause any hassle

You can’t have 22 first choice players
