2024/25 James Garner

Can’t throw money at it? We’ve already spent 40mil and it’s just the 3rd of July
Moyes wants 2 wingers and 2 midfielders. McNeil and garner will be on the bench, we will come back to this in 12 months
We haven't spent £40M yet. And expensive signings doesn't equate to success, see 2017/18.

….i think Garner is a talented footballer who looks to retain the ball when he has possession. It takes a skill set to do that as well as belief in your own ability. Osman was magnificent at it, it goes under the radar because they make the difficult look it easy. Garner is not Oman’s level but it’s what he attempts and it’s important we have players like that.

The other point I’d make is our tempo is better when he’s in the team. We are better when we play with tempo.

Good footballer is Garner, important squad player.
Osman’s
Level was 6th/7th that’s why nobody better tried to buy him, but he was a good player and much better than garner
But we never won anything with him in 10yrs got to one final, a few runs in Europe, but last 16 was our best effort.

The reason why I bring up Garner and McNeil, I’d because both are at a good age, have very low book values and selling could help us buy much better, just getting 12/13mil for Garner would allow us to buy a 40mil midfielder. Surley that’s how we need to move forward, all of us talk about sell on value and yet when someone mentions selling a squad player to help us improve, everyone starts screaming

Barry is done, you will see very soon
Ok let’s buy nobody and keep the crap who’ve had us in the bottom half for years, fantastic idea
You seem to be quite informed. Not doubting he'll sign. Also not advocating we keep "the crap" as you put it bit we've gotten rid of a lot of players, two of whom, despite their crapness kept us in the league in consecutive seasons. For me, both Garner and McNeill are good squad players, said it enough times. I don't recall them really letting us down. They haven't kept us in the lower echelons, the mismanagement at the top end did. They came in when the ship was already on a downward trajectory. I struggle to see who comes in that provides better squad depth AND there are other areas that will need addressing before shipping those 2 out.

Where’s he playing mate??
Either as a winger or a No. ten but he will be at liberty to drift—-he’s one of the few players, at the moment, who is happy to receive the ball and hold onto it while looking to make a pass. Staying fit is his big problem which didn’t help him at all last season or Everton .

Well he’s 2nd choice on the left and at number 10, and Moyes wants 2 right wingers, one who will be first choice and another who can maybe play in a few positions. So he definitely won’t start if everyone is fit

Garner and McNeil are good players to have in the squad. Reliable 6/10 players who throw in the odd 8/10 game.

Both also English and combined they were signed for under £30mil.

If we could sell both for £40mil then on paper it does look good. However, who do we sign to replace them with that makes it worthwhile?

Garner has a 1year option. I'd probably look at extending him and McNeil this summer and then in 12months see if there may be buyers.

What about the 2 right wingers we’re buying

Who says were after 2?

Surely makes more sense to sign 1 RW + another player who can play across the front.

Then we have 3 attacking mids + mcneil & a new signing rotating.
