Chermiti deal in theory made sense, we just decided to park him on the bench for 2 years and expected him to somehow develop as a player there. Of course that wasn’t helped by the previous manager who had no intention or clue how to coach and develop young players.

If we did that everyone would be moaning that we don’t hold on to our best players. Better to do the Branthewaite/Lukaku/Stones/Lescott/Fellaini route. Get playing value and sell at their peak.

Less of a gamble because he has another year of development and he has performed well in a better league.

He needs to hit the ground running from the off! Too costly otherwise, and it usually works well for other teams.

I'm afraid if you look around the market what we've paid for him gets you a young rough diamond with lots of potential, but it guarantees you nothing. Brighton sign loads in a similar vain but sometimes it takes a year for them acclimatise. Which is why footy is a squad game now.

Also with the way the game has developed and is played (you could argue to it's detriment - thanks pep) there are very view guaranteed 20+ goal a season strikers. Look at the PL how many are there?

Yeah. Our fans will moan about anything though. I genuinely think we need a model in these formative years of TFG where we flip young players for decent wedge. They pivot to an new model once established. Only way we'll ever get round PSR. Being rich doesn't mean you can spend it frivolously. Look at the skunks. Sensible management will yield longer term success !
