Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I would suggest current evidence is young players are happy to be low down in the pecking order if they are paid enough.

There is a pile of them at Chelsea, Brighton, City, and more. They are foolish enough to believe they are always moving up, and will take a spot from someone else. Its a pretty easy sell to tell a young guy you will pay him a lot of money, he gets to play in the PL, hes 3rd choice to start, plays 15 matches a year, and a single injury and hes starting. I think there are countless talented 19 year olds that would take that.
Please think about the clubs you're comparing there. Chelsea and City are far beyond the level we are currently.

Also, the player you're describing would not be cheap.

No were not, were still in the red for now. There were plenty of repotrs that we are going to be tight for psr this season.

Add to that that we need to bring in at least 8-10 players to the squad we dont have the money or anyone in the academy ready to step up.

Keane is the best option for us. If he wasnt why would moyes want him to stay?
Yes we are. Show your math.

For 2025/2026, reports are A. We shed 43m in wages, B. Stadium interest is refinanced 35m lower, C. New stadium/sponsorships will increase revenue by 50m(conservatively). Thats a conservative 128m versus 24/25. And yes, the entire point of it is to use it to buy players and pay their wages.

You said, "Most good young players now aren't interested in being that low down the pecking order. They want to play."

So which is it now? Do they want to play, or does that actually not matter that much as you are now admitting?

And yes, the player Im describing would be affordable. Unless you have evidence to the contrary that a young player who isnt good enough to start in the PL yet and so doesnt get offers from other clubs, would be very expensive.

So you would want the club to pay money for a young player to be wasted on the subs' bench? And in case he's needed he's not PL level.

Make it make sense.

Not a rumour but if we can improve our reputation for future windows, it would be great to start investing in the likes of Yarek Gasiorowslki at lower fees who himself has come through the Valencia academy and been looked at by Prem Clubs after being involved in their 1st team for 2 seasons. Tall and physical and CB/LB and just 20. Again we need to be playing in Europe for such players to consider us, if they will not be guaranteed to play. In the meantime we will have older more established players as cover in areas we have a stronger 1st/2nd choice.

well yeah, I do think most good young players want to play now and aren't interested in being that low, but of course there are going to be some examples that don't follow that. Despite that, we have seen players at clubs like Chelsea/City leave because they want more game time. Additionally, Chelsea for example had two different squads last season where one played in the PL and one played in the ECL. It's also without mentioning the financial gulf between the clubs. There are multiple variables at the two clubs you mentioned which just aren't applicable to us so it is clear why some young players would be fine there in comparison to a club like us etc.

Can you give some examples of those players?

How does a young player develop sitting on the bench?
The same way Branthwaite did when we purchased him 3 years before he started.

You can either develop young talent for cheap, years in advance, or you can pay full price later. There isnt really a third option as far as I see it. Teams like United can afford to pay full price, I dont think we can if we want to compete.

So you want us to buy a young CB, then loan him out for a year. And not have a backup on the bench?
