Confirmed Signing Thierno Barry

But you wouldn't get £80 mill for him - playing anywhere else but the PL mate - which is why he's £27 mill to get out of Spain.

That's the game really, you are buying years of service and hope his registration increases in value.

Rom is a great example, we bought his for around the £27 mill fee, looks cheap now.

Its a lot of money for us, in my opinion and i think Everton have a lot of trust to build in the fan base in selecting players, we've had largely nothing but bad deals and having to manage the resulting financial difficulty for close to a decade now.

We do at some point need to back our judgement again and take these risks in investing if we believe in a player.

Our squad is one of the lowest invested in, in the entire league for seasons now - it badly needs investment.
We paid a fair amount for Richy and it did pay of mostly from a playing success pov till the enforced sale, so it would be fantastic if Barry should he sign, has similar success without the forced sale bit. Onana we got glimpses after paying a decent fee but again a PSR enforced sale. Friedkins being successful business peeps may have one eye on resale value, but will be nice to be reassured that will not be the primary aim this time around.

I think he signs tonight. Can feel it.

Lone striker predominantly tasked with holding the ball up / knocking it on for attacking midfielders to run on to, while also being a menace from set pieces.
I mean that's not typically what I think of with Moyes.

It's far more running the channels and challenging crosses than hold up play for me.

That's the mold I think of with Johnson, Saha, and Yakubu.

Even Jelavic.

Even so in, the limited footage I’ve seen, that doesn’t appear to be his game. To me he looks like someone who wants the ball played in behind where teams are playing a high defensive line.
The post about the number of offside he gets suggests it too.
Which imo, is similar to what Beto seems most suited too.
Time will tell I guess, but I hope he’s not got ideas of using him or trying to mould him into a Fellaini or Soucek.

I can’t imagine him doing that. A big part of the appeal of using Cahill, fellaini, soucek etc the way he did was that they were naturally midfielders, and had the defensive instincts and ability to keep the shape that comes with that. It wasn’t a coincidence that it tended to be midfielders pushed forward who were used that way rather than strikers dropping back.

The ‘strikers’ were often pushed out wide though, Yak, Saha and to a lesser extent Jelevic being exceptions. But Yak and Saha were elite finishers so we tended to play a little differently with them on the pitch.
But AJ for example having been a golden boot runner up before we bought him, became Yaks legs doing all the donkey work out at the corner flag
