Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Good morning all. Wow, how hot is it? Ive been doing some very light gardening and I am melting! I appear to have successfully grown an aubergine. I'm very proud. It is only small at the moment but definitely a recognisable aubergine. Sadly no gooseberries this year. I'm not sure my gooseberry bush appreciated being dug up and moved to our new house. However it looks healthy so hopefully next year will be good.
Definitely get yourself to the pub @peteblue . It is a perfect day for it. Enjoy your drive with Kay.
Im pleased to hear you think the meds are starting to work @Terrarian . Fingers crossed and I really hope your delivery arrives.
I think Mr F and I will be barbecuing tonight and sitting outside.
Have a good day all.
Good debate.

Can't listen to Michael.Jsckson or Marvin Gaye as I can't separate the deed from the dude.

Similarly Mrs J won't listen to Sting .

Happily I've always hated Rod Stewart and his politics don't suprise me in the least.
I refuse to listen to The Lost Prophets because of Ian Watkins which is a shame because they did some good tunes. Most are the same with Glitter as well.

Yeah, my son loved The Lost Prophets and stopped listening to them after that. I would never listen to Gary Glitter again (not that I would choose to as an adult!) I hate Sean Connery for his views about women sometimes needing a slap and won't watch his films.

It is an interesting debate to be had. Can you separate the artist from their views? Im not sure I can. Having said that, murdering wife beater Phil Spector could lay down a good tune!
I do think there are people who are influenced by celebs and politicians- especially those they admire and who feed into their insecurities. Look at Andrew Tate and the current leadership of the USA - they are enabling people to behave badly and legitimising it. Charles Manson was hugely influenced by The Beatles White Album - admittedly The Beatles were not espousing any kind of view , it was his interpretation of the songs.
Slightly off topic but I hope relevant, I did a case where a guy (very clever professional person) had been radicalised by hate preachers. The prison report was fascinating- he was desperate to belong, his childhood had been unhappy- nothing he did was good enough for his Dad. The preachers fed into that, told him he was great, gave him that sense of belonging and being loved, for want of a better word. He was caught on his way to Syria with his two young sons,(7 and 9) going off to fight- having shown the kids all kinds of horrific videos and enlisting them up to fight as well.
So the short answer is yes I do think there are people who will be influenced.
That all got a bit heavy! Apologies.
I can and do separate an artist and their views Anj, but not so much with their actions when they are particularly heinous. I watched a bit of the Rod Stewart set yesterday and turned off because he wasn't very good. Which is a shame because his songs were a big part of my growing up.

It isn't normally a big issue anyway as the vast majority of artists tend to veer to the left politically.

Morning all, I hope it does as well G, sick of waiting and I just know it's going to turn up while I'm walking Daisy meaning more hassle. It is still within the 5-11 working days unfortunately, I think tomorrow is day 11. Why in 2025 we still do working days is beyond me.

I may be jumping the gun but I think the meds might be helping, just not a big enough dose to last all day though. I take 1 naproxen when i get up and 1 at evening meal, then gabapentin when I take my quetiapine before bed. I'm still having to take headache tablets but nowhere near as many. Fingers crossed.

Have a good day guys.
Fingers crossed mate. But I know you been here before and I'd rather not tempt fate.

I'm just waiting in a cafe in Windermere now waiting for my connection to the Edinburgh train that my two mates will be on. One of them messaged me last night about 8pm to confirm his carriage details etc, and he finished the message off with weather for the week looking great. Well guess what?😀😀😀😀

Rooftops is one of my favourite songs from that period and the only song by them I have on my old Ipod. It's probably the only song I have in my collection that I summarily skip through.

But yeah, those 2 artists I am definitely unable to separate the music.

Oh dear. My mate just called to say that there's no Scotland trains on the western line all day. They are going to make their way over to York and catch an Edinburgh train there. My little jaunt to the Lakes isn't looking like such a good idea now. I'll probably need to get about 4 trains to get there. God knows how long that will take.

I must admit I heard of but ignored Rod Stewart’s comment (s?), I like his music but he’s views don’t really interest me. There again I’d never heard of “ Bob Vylan” until yesterday, can people really be influenced by these people just because they are “ famous” .? , I just ignore them.

Totally agree, that Bob fella was just chasing publicity. I hope he gets arrested and imprisoned……

Sorry to hear that Fred, probably the last thing you needed to do on such a hot day…..

Not sure if you have planned your route yet. Windermere to Durham or Newcastle might be an option then pick up the LNER trains to Edinburgh. You would have to get to Oxenholme Lake District or Carlisle first. Itcsays average journey time from Windermere to Newcastle is 3.5 hours but can range from 2hrs 50m8ns to 5 hours. It's an hour and a half from Newcastle to Edinburgh

And as it happens I’m posting this on a train to Edinburgh which started in Aberdeen so no problems in this direction. Having a couple of nights there with Mrs bl , got a meet n greet to attend tomorrow at 2pm then off to the King’s Garden Party for 4pm 🙂
