Pre Season Matches.

I have been thinking about managerial candidates for the legends game and a few names spring to mind. Some are more likely than others, but there are a few contenders.
  • Joe Royle: unlikely due to age.
  • Colin Harvey: again, unlikely due to age, even more so than Royle.
  • Peter Reid: never managed us, but arguably has the most managerial experience out of the 80s players.
  • David Unsworth: I am not sure about his relationship with the club, but he did have two spells as interim manager.
  • Duncan Ferguson: again, another two-time former interim manager, yet more likely to be playing than managing.
  • Adrian Heath: has some managerial experience in the UK and over in the MLS, outside contender.
  • Kevin Ratcliffe: could be nice to see our former captain lead us in another capacity.
  • Carlo Ancelotti: a real outside option. Given that he is an international manager now with Brazil, he will have more time on his hands. He has connections to both clubs (managed us, played for Roma) and is one of the greatest managers of all time.
  • Leighton Baines: far more likely to be playing, but could offer him a further opportunity to take charge, having took the reins last season in the FA Cup match against Peterborough.
  • Alan Irvine: unlikely opportunity for the current assistant manager and 1984 FA Cup winner.

Think you're coming at it from the wrong angle. Will probably be Tony Bellew

What's the rush to get out of the stadium here? I've not been myself yet and I'd certainly stay on if I could make it, and I'm 180+ miles south.
I don't get it tbh, new stadium shouldn't we be embracing it?

I think there`s a good few to pic from for the manager role, the bigger job will be to find "legends" that are in a fit state to play. The last 3 odd years have not had too many that could be called Everton legends.

Not sure he likes us.

I have not seen anything to suggest that is true. The only reported issue which I am aware of is the feud between him and Pat Van Den Hauwe.

Please feel free to share any information to suggest that Ratcliffe does not like us.
I have only reached that conclusion from when he commentates on Everton games. Like Hinchcliffe, he never seems to have a good word to say.

Would it not have been better to have this before the main game? It would get fans into the ground early as they would have something to watch. Can imagine having watched a pre season 90 minutes that a good few would be heading home at full time.

two friendlies, one played by retired pros in one afternoon is a lot. will feel like a long day by the end of it
I’m really interested in both games, wish the legends game was either next month or during international break

Players must be back Mon or Tues for pre season- isn't it usually the start of July.
Our first publicised pre-season fixture against Accrington Stanley is not until July 15th and it would appear (based solely upon players' social media) that some are still on holiday. Therefore, my best guess would be that the players will not return until around July 7th.

However, the flip side of that assumption is that the players are already back and may have just shared photographs taken on holiday upon returning to the UK. Some will also return earlier than others, as certain players (e.g. Pickford) will have extended holiday periods due to international commitments.
