I think Gueye stays. He is a workhorse in that midfield however age will catch up with him at some point, whether it be an injury or the legs go. Also loosing him for AFCON is a big hit.

The problem is if we don’t get another half decent player in we so far could be left with Garner and Tim as our midfield. We do need someone, I think I would actually take Fred, but again there has to be someone out there better.
Would love to be Gueye to stay, but think if he was going to extend he would have already done it. He has also said he’d like to go back to France.

We would need to get someone in, the question is who? Moyes has identified what he wants from someone in that role, and it is experience and stability, which is understandable.

I think Gueye will sign next week. And also people going on about Longstaff, he would be a great addition to the team. The people saying no are probably the same people saying they wouldn’t of took McTominay.

Fenerbahce will spend more than £10M on a defensive midfielder and have CL football and Jose to attract talent.

We have none of these things.

I think you're overestimating the appeal of moving to the Turkish league to play for 2025 Jose. Obviously, there's exceptions to the rule, but 8/9 times out of the 10 the players who get shipped there are after the large salary and a leisurely stroll v the likes of Kasimpasa. Moreover, 8/9 times out of 10 a player who has genuine career ambitions RE: not financial wouldn't entertain a move there in the first place. We need to avoid them.

The CL football comment is a bit of a stretch, too, considering they've got to get through the qualifiers first. If they draw Benfica, Feyenoord, Club Brugge or even Rangers they could be knocked out.

Sunderland literally broke their transfer record last night to sign a highly-rated talent like Diarra. The lure of the Premier League is very strong. I mean, Diarra would rather do that move than wait around at Chelsea's feeder club!

Would have loved for us to take McTominay, but couldn’t see how we could have attracted/afforded him at the time.

Longstaff on the other hand strikes me as a squad player at best. Could/Should do better.
We have Garner and Tim filling out the role of just about good enough to start, but easily replaceable at the moment.

With Gueye stalling over his contract extension, who will we end up with as our Defensive Midfielder next season?

It sounds like Gueye would prefer to see out his career back in Paris, though Paris FC seem unable to match Everton’s offer. Rennes are the only other French team interested, but I think wage demands have put them off.
There is some nonsense about a squabble with Everton over the length of the contract due to his age, but that is far too easily solved with a performance related option of a second year.
It’s up to Idrissa with his contract ending next week.

Two options have been strongly rumoured.

The Turkish press have been all over an approach by us for Fred. Mainly because Fenerbahce are upgrading and would like to move him on. Everton are very interested, but want a bit of movement on the £12.5M price tag.

The other option we have investigated for this position is Ndidi from Leicester, at £9M.

It is obviously Moyes wants an premier League experienced Senior player in there for composure and leadership, and is willing to spend £9M-£10M on him.

Who says he’s stalling 😂😂😂😂 talk about an over reaction

Longstaff as a bench, squad player for free or on a cheap deal,
Fair enough, for 15mil and 15mil in wages over 4yrs, is a terrible deal for an average player.
Mctominay to be fair, was a regular for Utd the majority of the time and turned up in some big games and scored some big goals for them, he’s a different level to Longstaff, who’s not good enough to be starting for a team who wants to kick on
Apparently Leeds looking at loaning Douglas luiz, well we should be all over that, than spending money on Longstaff

Good thread mate. ;)

In the absence of any Fred updates….If it was me I’d probably go after someone like Lamine Camara
