That should be it moving forwards, an option to purchase the shirt without a sponsor. A great move by the club, one which I'm sure will go down well with the fans who strongly opposed gambling companies on the shirt.

Yep, almost certainly it's written in the contract that sponsor must be on the replica shirts as well.
The unsponsored version is almost certainly a one-off, brought about because Stake are in the last year of their deal with us and the ban on gambling sponsors is soon to be enforced. Stake have no power to prevent it.
Premier League Central Register of Club Gambling Related Agreements Clause 3.5.2 of the code: “Ensuring that mechanisms exist to enable supporters to have the ability to purchase adult replica kits that do not include gambling sponsorship logos, in the event that they are not otherwise available for purchase.”
