Other Club Stadium Developments

£62.5m committed by the Executive I believe.

O'Donovan the Irish Sport and Culture minister hinted at 'scale' being a discussion point with the GAA. I wonder if he's anticipating the shortfall not being bridged decisively and maybe looking to persuade relevant parties to reduce the capacity and ambition for Casement Park?

Off-topic for this thread but this thread reminds of one of the things I would have liked to have seen at our new ground. In previous stadium debates going waaay back when KEIOC was around, there were designs put up by fans groups like that and I remember one of them was a design for a large St. Ruperts tower at the main entrance or one at each end (It's all a bit fuzzy to me now lol) - I remember some of our fans saying it would have been 'tacky' but I would have liked it, it would have been our very own version of the old Wembley twin towers.

Apologies, I thought I'd read £90M.

Nothing going into the pot from Stormont presumably with 'the peepil' blocking it?

Just been reading the GAA's priorities about stadium improvements down south. That cant be the priority surely given a GAA stadium like this is necessary in the north?
Stormont is of course split over it in the usual zero sum mentality. The hatred of the GAA is masked (unconvincingly) with talk of waiting lists etc

Casement is a GAA priority for sure, the words today just politicking for additional necessary funding from Dublin primarily.

The locals must be tearing their hair out over it.

They could always keep it simpler than the original design and throw up some good old fashioned terracing behind each goal, as I think GAA heads don`t mind standing to watch a game. Only needed to be all seater with UEFA approved facilities to keep them happy for the Euros but long term terracing at either end will keep the GAA faithful happy knowing they have a good size ground in Belfast for Ulster finals into the future.

Would that be acceptable to the UK government and their policy on standing in stadia?

Its acceptable at all other GAA grounds, including all in the six counties and the redeveloped Ravenhill rugby ground. The only reason It was designed as all seater was to fit in with UEFA policy.

I still find it difficult to see it happening at this scale at all given the costs. Terracing would help for sure but hard to see them getting amended planning amd starting before it expires?

Just shy of 50% of Stormont don’t want the UK govt. to give anything but I’m sure Roger Casement is smiling in his grave at the thought of it!

Bigots are standing in the way. It's a shame. If it was about handing cash for another upgrade to Windsor Park though and the nationalists were standing in its way they'd be up in arms.

All their good for is terrorising Romanian families hiding in the loft to avoid being murdered by them.

The GAA have cried foul before when Rovers and Dublin CC were sorting out Tallaght stadium. GAA team from that part kicked off about id the Council were putting money into a stadium it should be for multi sport use, which is why the stands are a good way back from the goal line.
