Last Film You Watched

The Slave and the Sorcerer (2024)
A throwback to the sword and sorcery movies of old, just with worse acting.

The film is clearly made with love, and it's for the most part a fun watch. I did struggle a bit during the first 15 or so minutes, and it felt like this was going to be a looong sit through. But I eventually enjoyed the movie more as time went on (it's about 80 minutes long).

A couple of pretty actresses (the most prominent one literally just stood there looking nice for the cameras for the most part) made it easier to get through the worst parts of the film. The acting is so over the top, it actually kind of works (the guy playing the king is one of the worst actors I've ever seen though). The film knows what it is (pure cheese), and that's why it's not a waste of time watching it imo.

The best part of the film, is the visuals. The CGI parts are not great, but I've also seen a lot worse, and considering the budget I actually find it kind of decent. The setting and the costumes were for spot on. Bad actors or not, the people in the film really look the part. Especially the guy playing the slave is an absolute (oiled up) physical specimen. Great casting, I must say.

The power metal soundtrack, made by a band with a singer who simply can not sing, was hilarious. Well done.

6/10

Watched on a DVD I got from the kickstarter campaign. They didn't deliver the other rewards they promised, so I won't support them again, but the film itself is not bad, so I gotta be fair with my rating.

Yeah. First time I’ve seen it, although randomly I’ve been out drinking with the guy who was his body double or whatever on the movie. He did look a bit like him alright. Thought the movie was a stinker tho
I quite liked it, anything with 'yeke yeke' in it cant be all bad. Got Tilda Swinton to. Apparently the book is superb.

Now that's done, let's get down to the good stuff. This guy you've been out boozing with that was Di Caprio's body double on a major Hollywood film, set out in Thailand. Pony up some details, this is good stuff...

I loved the book and so was very excited for it but agree it is pretty rubbish. Some ok bits but could have been so much better.

I get bored of Hollywood remakes but wouldn’t mind someone taking a shot at doing it again as I think it could be brilliant.

Ah nothing mad. My mate is a director and this guy was his room mate in London. They came over for new years a few years back and when I asked him “you know who you look a bit like” he just said yeah I know…I was his double on The Beach. Showed me a photo of the two of them together. More interestingly to me he knows Vic Reeves so I got a drunk happy new years voice message from him, which was very cool even if I’d preferred it was Bob 🙃

Watched The 3 faces of Eve the other night, never seen before but was on my list of recommended for ages, amd taped it at Christmas. Wow, brilliant from the lead actress, who I then read up on as being Paul Newman's wife, outliving him in the end as a Widow. Made in the 50's, and L. Cobb from 12 Angry Men as the Dr. Just great.

I watched The Three Faces of Eve yesterday and loved it. It felt a bit weird seeing Lee J. Cobb playing a Doctor after watching him in 12 Angry Men; although it did tickle me how he would casually puff away on a cigar whilst talking to his patient. Different times and all that :D

that's cool as feck, you obviously made an impression yourself. So who are you the double for?

Warfare.

This was a film that I really wanted to see at the cinema, but missed due to it only getting a limited release.

The reviews had been pretty much overwhelmingly good, due to its realism, but I bit disappointed tbh.

Thought it started off really well, but then just became flat.

Maybe it was one you needed to see on the cinema to appreciate the battle scenes ?
