Maybe they future proofed the amount of turnstiles and the size of the concourses to account for 61878 attending.

This recommends one turnstile per 1250 attendees (50 turnstiles for 61878 capacity).

Seen various comments saying that the stadium design allows for extension, to provide a capacity increase. That is never going to happen.

The stadium as built, is it, for the long-term foreseeable.

If demand rises to a point that the current capacity is regularly deemed inadequate, ticket prices will go up. Eventually a sweet spot will be found, where maximum ticket sales are still achieved at higher prices.

It would be a very long time, if ever, before this simple and hugely profitable demand control mechanism was substituted, for expensive construction work to modify the stadium.

We traded off a higher capacity with good expandability options in a poor location (Stonebridge Cross) for a lower capacity, almost zero expandability in a good but not perfect location - perfect would have been staying at Goodison, levelling the area around it (RS style) to create a 65,000 monster!

How many of you would have preferred Stonebridge Cross even if it was 60,000 and easily extendable to 70,000? Not me.

From the very first reveal of the stadium capacity to today, it's blatantly obvious that 52,000 was a laughable capacity in every context. It should have been 65,000 all day long.
I'm old enough to have seen crowds of over 70,000. However, those sort of numbers were always going to be difficult to attain in this location. It's a brilliant location and a brilliant home for the city's first club, but I agree that it's a paltry capacity.
