G.A.A. 2025.

Dubs beat Cork by 3 to go into the quarter final proper along with Kerry.

Tyrone, Monaghan Armagh and Meath already through as group winners.

Donegal or Louth, Down or Galway - they play tomorrow.

Tipp won comfortably so a very contented BR house this evening, 😄

Shaky win for the footballers, only resilience and muscle memory keeping us in it, hope Con is back next weekend. Backline is awful, any day out from here I suspect will be our last, but let’s wait in the draw.

Hurlers Sublime stuff, historic win.

Brilliant double header.
Nobody seems to have any new way of playing to exploit the new rules yet.

We were running drills this morning on the 2 pointer at club mate. Most teams will defend the arc to bring a player out to close the space and if the can tackle, we were experimenting having a decoy, let the first man go into the tackle and just before lay it off - that defender is taken out in the first phase, then lay it off to the actual shooter.

Its a difficult nut to crack as its a low % shot to hit - even with your best shooter on it - doing well ours scored about 2 out of 5. The other difficulty is that you have committed to the phase - so if it breaks down - two of yours are caught - while generally your best shooter is a an advanced player so you have to bring a man back from inside either the full or half forward line. The conundrum really is whatever way you work it - its a high risk. low % shot and how much you commit it to it is a risk. Rally is a tactical or game plan knot at the moment. Someone im sure will crack it, if anyone has any ideas.................

For the Dubs Fenton is a huge miss, you feel any midfielder who could shoot with accuracy coming from deep the 2 point rule is suited for and you don't have to bring a man back. Surprised Mayo didn't use Paddy Durcan more - he has a shot on him from half back.

The Dubs match today had shades of last year even with the new rules, blanket defenses and lateral hand passing - maybe not as bad as last year for men behind the ball - but i do feels the new rules of less players back - isn't that much of a smoking gun.

Just looks to have caused confusion and that’s leading to a few more scores rather than having any real shift.

I suspect that if they had gone through with giving more point for a goal it would have given defenders more of a conundrum.

Agreed mate, be a big supporter of four points for a goal, that and the two pointer gives the back 6 something to think about.

I’d be interested to if the scoring % have gone up a lot with the new rules - from a Dubs point of view I’d say we’re fairly static and just over 20 points a game on average - but we’re not 5he best example a-we’ve regressed. We’re certainly conceding a hell of a lot more - which maybe is more illustrative.

So the quarterfinal pairing in football are beginning to take shape!

If Donegal & Galway win tomorrow:

Armagh can only play Kerry
Tyrone could play Dublin or Galway
Monaghan could play Donegal or Dublin or Galway
Meath could play Dublin or Donegal or Galway

If Donegal & Down win tomorrow:

Armagh could play Kerry or Down
Monaghan could play Kerry or Donegal or Dublin
Tyrone could play Kerry or Dublin or Down
Meath could play Dublin or Donegal or Down

If Louth & Down win tomorrow:

Meath could play Dublin or Down
Monaghan could play Kerry or Dublin
Armagh could play Kerry or Down or Louth
Tyrone could play Kerry or Dublin or Down

—————————-

So if the likely happens and Donegal & Galway win tomorrow , most teams will have at least a 50/50 of who they can face:
Kerry v Armagh
Donegal v either Monaghan or Meath
Tyrone v either Dublin or Galway
Meath can draw any of the teams as Kerry would be pre arranged tonplay Armagh but it would be likely to see

Meath v Galway
Dublin v Tyrone

Donegal v Monaghan
Armagh v Kerry

ORR!!!

Dublin v Monaghan
Tyrone v Galway

Donegal v Meath
Kerry v Armagh

Those would be the likely sets of pairings from the draw if the favourites win tomorrow

Very open, probably due to the standard dropping but every game is now an exciting one
