Morning everyone,Cheers! In solidarity with my hub I’m not drinking at the moment so a zero per cent Guiness it is for me tonight. I’m playing ostrich at the moment in relation to world affairs - I don’t feel very informed but at least my sanity is relatively intact. Have a lovely evening too
@peteblue the full line is "It's just that there's so much to do and I'm tired of sleeping. "Morning everyone,
I try to make a point of reading every post that I've missed the previous day when I awake.
This morning I was struck by Val and @peteblue posts and reminded of lines by two of my favourite lyricists.
For Val it's Paul Simon and "I get all the news I need from the weather report" from The only living boy in New York.
And for you Pete it's "Tired of Sleeping" a wonderful track off Days of Open Hand by Suzanne Vega.
Pete I desperately hope you can get some rest mate.
Have a lovely day everyone.
A classic song made famous by that well known Liverpool group The Dubliners.Morning all. Cataract surgery went well yesterday. Thanks for all the good wishes. It was a beautiful evening so left the patient at home and headed off to the country dancing festival. Held in the beautiful grounds of a local independent school, the buildings and facilities were quite an eye opener for my state educated granddaughters. No Gay Gordon’s or Strip the Willow on the dance programme but there was one called The Leaving of Liverpool.
Just going to remove Mr G’s eye patch and start the drops… the screens, nurse!
Have a good day, all![]()
Is that because the border follows a meandering river. There's a similar patch of the A49 in Shropshire that crosses the Severn several times.Cavan for me tomorrow to watch Armagh v Galway. A meaningless game for us but Galway desperately need at least a point. I have made the executive decision to make a day and night out of it and stay over. It’s only an hour away but sure why not.
On this journey tomorrow I believe it’s 4 times I cross the border in about 15 minutes while never turning off the road a single time.
I love that song and from one of the greatest albums ever. And hey I’ve got nothing to do today but smile!Morning everyone,

Seeing as it's world gin day it would be rude not to. Cheers everyone. I hope you are all able to enjoy your weekend given all that's going on around us. Everytime you blink something else seems to have happened.![]()
Does your wife have a will? If she has I'm assuming you are the main beneficiary and her executor. You need to get a grant of probate which will allow you to deal with her affairs. If she hasn't got a,will - apply for letters of administration. You can do both on line - it isn't very complicated to do but you do need a death certificate first. There's still a world turning out there??
I've had the stress from hell this last few days. She used to do the finances, as that was her 'thing', being otherwise trapped in a chair the whole day, and I found out that the savings account was in her name, so without a death certificate yet the bank can't even tell me what's in it! I have found out that she had been givng a lot (like, many many thousands) over the last few years to a close friend who had found herself in dire straits, and while I forgive her for that even if it was without telling me (I'd have stopped it), because her main flaw was that she was stupidly generous to friends who needed something. And being stuck in the life she was, with even her sight failing, I guess you would do anything to feel better. Her friend is a chow dog breeder who has lost all her breeding bitches through terrible luck, and Janet financed her getting several more, with all the vet bills, operations, food etc, so that she could start her life again. It also enabled her to have dogs vicariously again now that she could no longer do much towards looking after them, and I can't resent her for that. Walk a mile in someone's shoes, especially if they cannot walk. I must admit though that I desperately need to find out if there's money there and that I'm not destitute, and doomed to Universal Credit and pauperhood until pension age in three years... I also have to delve through what pension schemes we have uncashed and cross my fingers.
I should have kept an eye with her on the financial situation, but when it's the only aspect of life you don't have to think about, you just let it go...
Talk about your life upending in a week! Emotional crisis and financial stress are a hideous mix. I'm still eating the odd snack and getting some sleep when I can, day or night. Or often neither. I can't see the end of this right now.
To have her back for five minutes I'd even take another Liverpool title win. And that's when you know it's serious!![]()
I have finally received my mother's probate this week, only took 9 months !Does your wife have a will? If she has I'm assuming you are the main beneficiary and her executor. One thing after another for Chris and Sophie, it is better to be safe than sorry though. I hope that their cat turns up soon and you are feeling less like a badger now.Hi folks. Yesterday we went out to the local pub to help a friend celebrate her birthday. It got messy- I feel rough as a badger today!
Unfortunately Chris and Sophie did not come. One of their cats has gone missing and they wanted to stay home to search for her. At the moment the cat is still missing.
Chris also had some slightly worrying news - he went for a check on his moles and one of them, in his words ' looked dodgy'. The consultant dermatologist looked at it and said she wasn't sure but , given his history, it would be better off removing it. I feel like they are being ultra cautious but it is still a worry. He's so close to the end of his treatment- only two left and everything has been so positive so far.
Hope you have all had a good Sunday - Happy Father's Day to the Dads!
Usually husband/wife is simpler and quicker, it took me over two years to get my late sisters estate sorted , mainly due to her giving large amounts of money away as gifts. Although I used a Solicitor to do the complex legal bits I spent more time than her on the bank account bits to expedite it . In the past I’ve found Solicitors, while necessary, often make mistakes, so I did a lot myself while pushing them to do their bit as quickly as possible and also checking their work.I have finally received my mother's probate this week, only took 9 months !
Sadly no. The Border was drawn to maximise the Unionist population for perpetuity, encircling small areas to ensure. What is happening now re demographics was not foreseen. Is that because the border follows a meandering river. There's a similar patch of the A49 in Shropshire that crosses the Severn several times.
