Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

It makes me so sad too. I feel that Trump and social media are the enablers of this. This next bit is my own personal theory. I think COVID changed society for the worse. Somehow compassion and humanity got lost during that period of isolation in spite of the examples of doctors, nurses, care workers and others, who gave so much. There seems to be a me me me mob mentality now amongst a large section of society and we took many steps backwards. Or am I just getting old?
Lockdown brought out both the best and worst in people. I watched local groups arrange food and medicine deliveries to vulnerable people but at the same time saw people hoarding food and supplies to implausibly practicable levels. Social media, Twitter in particular, feeds this personal God complex that is becoming ever present.

Loosely linked to that, I will share something I learned yesterday while working. I know my yesterday looked like me and @Barnfred 55 putting on a DJ set but I actually was working. Anyway, I met with a neurosurgeon who told me that when he started 15 years ago, the greatest cause of brain injuries was road traffic accidents. Now the biggest cause of brain injuries is assault. Based on that alone, you do wonder about the path society is on now.

Johnson and Trump famously twisted science and reason so very badly to suit their agenda during Covid that many people lost faith in science, reason, established education and the society that promoted it. They did such a bad job during covid that it added fuel to anti-vaccers and reinforced the delusions a lot of badly educated people have, that they know best. Its certainly resulted in more people isolating themselves from normal social thinking and towards greater selfishness. Its not been helped by increasing poverty and the example being set by those few who have very obviously collected the planet's wealth for their own hoards.
Very well put Chris. The New World Order has warped the world and societal norms to their personal liking.

Yes. Exactly this. You have explained it so much better than I did.

Muse wrote an even more appropriate song for the Prince of Persia reference 😀

I played this to my Mother one day and she described it as Belly Dancing Music.

So basically what you're saying is my new fixation is just a rip off of Muse.😀 Well I suppose there's a lot worse bands they could be plagiarising.

I hadn't heard that second song on Spotify but I knew of it. It's a soundtrack from a Netflix series and I've started watching it but not come across it yet. Yes I am that sad.

The only other song I'd seen is this live rendition recorded at a Greek .music festival a few years back. I love the way that it combines rock and opera and hope the girls do something similar in the future.

Well I can definitely state that they are heavily influenced by Muse’s Space Opera approach to song writing. There might just be something there Fred but early days for them.

Good luck to Mr G for his cataract op, I hope it goes smoothly. I remember the Gay Gordon’s and The Dashing White Sergeant too.
In Scotland virtually all Ceilidhs start with the Gay Gordon’s , it’s an easy “ get up on the floor folks, we’ll talk you through it if you don’t know” dance. In my early years here I got to figure out most of the dances , some are complex. The Strip the Willow is good but beware if it’s called as “Orcadian Strip the Willow” it’s endless, saps all the remaking energy from your body but is good fun 🙂

Bit of a bittersweet day. Harry had his last exam today and has left school. This means he will no longer be coming round for breakfast and the school run. I first took on childminding duties when his Mum returned to work when he was three months old. Son and family used to live over the road from us so we were on hand, they moved about twelve miles away four years ago. Harry couldn’t move secondary schools, bus times were inconvenient so we took over the school run. It’s been a bit of a pain in the rear end at times especially on dark cold mornings and evenings. I’m pleased not to be doing that anymore but how I will miss seeing him.

I know exactly how you feel. My daughter and granddaughter lived with us for about nine or ten years and Kay and I would sort her out for school, breakfast, hair etc then take her down to school. They then bought a place in the local town but still did many of the things needed and would pick her up and take her home each day. Then it was time for her to move up to her local secondary school and we became redundant. It didn’t register with Kay due to the Alzheimer’s but it hit me quite hard, and still does tbh……

Be careful what you wish for about me posting as all I seem to be doing at the moment is going from one person to another and pouring my heart out, just hoping something will help. I must seem such a pain!

I really don't know what the universe can have in store for me next. After losing three beloved dogs in successive years, 18 months ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully it was still locally contained, and after four weeks of radiotherapy and six months of hormone therapy, my PSA levels since have been very low, so it is in remission. I have the next test on July 1. Now, the person in my life who has been with me through all this and been my rock has also been taken. I'm not a religious man, but if somebody up there wants to take it out on me so badly, I really don't know if I can fight any more..if you aimed a gun at me now, I'd let you open fire...

I'm going to try to sleep again now. But tomorrow will only bring the same

Jesus, there I go again!!

It’s perfectly natural and helpful to pour your heart out, bottling it up does you no good at att. Providing an outlet is what this thread is about. Don’t give in, I doubt your wife would want you to. One day at a time, some will be bad but some will eventually be good…..

Never call your kids Willow or Gordon, they’ll hate you for it….
