Just finished bingeing it. Really enjoyed the characters and, hopefully, there will be another series. It's certainly been set up for one.I`ve just realised that I`ve read first book that this is based on by the same name - The Dept Q Series, they`re by a Danish author called Jussi Adler Olson, set in Denmark.
It`s a pretty faithful remake, just moved to Edinburgh.

Seems Netflix are keen to do another one although no formal decision yet made but they've apparently put it up against some other big hitters for the Emmy Awards so they must have some faith as to it's longevity and attraction to viewers. There`s another nine books, so there`s plenty of material![]()
I like this show but wonder if it’s a lot to do with having gone to uni in Edinburgh and getting nostalgia.I`ve just realised that I`ve read first book that this is based on by the same name - The Dept Q Series, they`re by a Danish author called Jussi Adler Olson, set in Denmark.

Not sure how close it is to the source material but feels like it borrows ideas from a lot of other shows.

That's exactly the impression I got. And I read that the original Danish film made in 2013 - Keeper of Lost Causes - was the basis of the current series although involved a missing politician with the same name as the 'victim' in Department Q.From what I`ve read about it, it`s reception has taken Netflix by surprise, as they never expected it to be such a massive hit, which could explain why they didn`t have a second one lined up and ready to go ?
I got lucky and had a couple of mates I stayed with. Lived out the centre for a period near Portobello as well. Bit gentrified these days but still nice to visit. From memory, the tv series is pretty much a word for word adaptation of the first book.
How the hell did you afford to live in Edinburgh as a student, it`s one of my favourite places for a night out anywhere, but it`s near London prices for ale
Ps - did you ever venture into Espionage by the Grassmarket ( what a club )![]()

I know a couple of lads who went to uni there in the late 90s and RBS were giving 100% mortgages to students. So they got a place and charged mates to stay. Mad how things changed.
Espionage is some place. Like a small town club in an city centre. Edinburgh used to have some great clubs and bars but as the city got more exclusive, lots shut down or turned into places with names like ‘the joker and the bat’ and all the miscreants quickly banned.
Tend to avoid the centre when I go back. Leith still has some good boozers that won’t rip you off completely.
Nice place to be a student.
If I was you mate I’d be telling the missus to start thinking what new telly she fanciesCurrently on season 4 episode 4 of Yellowstone. If I have to watch another horse montage of them dancing or pulling skids I’m going to smash up my tv
