2024/25 Idrissa Gueye

If this is the case its a bit mad.

Offer him the 2, or even 1 + 1 and he has the option.

I thought for himself, he doesn't look like slowing up anytime soon, but if he is after a year, you would think he might favor a Saudi move, being out of contract in 12 months would help that.

Anyway, i think he is ace, will be impossible to replace
He's just not like most 35 year olds but the club know that already so it is a bit strange
2 years seems sound to me

Having said that I am pleased to see the club be a bit more cautious around contracts lately. Just hope we don't go too far the other way and shoot ourselves in the foot

We need this sorted of someone is going to come in and take him.. Our player of the season and we are flaffing about with a 1 year deal, give him 2 he's earned it..

…I imagine the new regime has very strict criteria regarding all financial dealings. I’m ok with that but it’s not always a case of ‘one size fits all’.

If Gana Gueye does get a two year contract from the club and his form drops off a cliff next season then the very people suggesting the two year contract will be the ones back hammering the club for doing so.

A one year contract with an option is the sensible contract.
This may sound silly but I’d absolutely give him the two year deal, even if you only realistically get one more year of him being at this level.

Yes, you’re going to have to pay for the second year, but risking him not signing over that would probably cost us more. We already have so many positions to fill, needing to replace Gueye on top of all of those is impossible. Our budget, everything changes.

Secure what you need to in the short term and allow yourself the breathing space to fix it long term.

Im not disagreeing in that a 1 year deal with an option would be better, of course that’s ideal. But I wouldn’t risk him not signing at all if it becomes clear it’s not something that’s doable.

He’s our most important player after Pickford imo

He could go to Saudi and make bank, his family are there and his footballing mates are all in his ear. This contract isn’t a formality.

Everton finished the season with 15 members of their first-team squad entering the final weeks of their contracts. Abdoulaye Doucouré, Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic, João Virginia, Neal Maupay and Mason Holgate will officially leave the club at the end of the month.

Jack Harrison, Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom and Armando Broja have returned to their parent clubs after loan spells, while the forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin and centre back Michael Keane are also set to leave.

Everton have offered Idrissa Gueye a new deal, but the Senegal midfielder wants two years rather than the one on the table. The club captain Seamus Coleman, 36, has also been offered a playing contract.

Probably covered elsewhere but just give him what he wants

Can't we just offer him a one year deal with a clause that states if he plays 25 league games it automatically renews on the same terms for another year? That would seem to suit both parties?
