2024/25 Jordan Pickford

Did Henderson save anything? Pickford is safe as houses in that goal. Won’t be long before the media go back to championing Ramsdale and Butland again over him.
Not at fault for 1st
2nd argue poor goal
3rd was a total disaster by whole team

But pickford likely dosen't let 2nd/3rd in

Trafford will be next if he moves to the Geordies, the media and fans of other keepers moan about them not getting chances but tonight has again shown why, with JP in goal that goes from a 3-1 defeat to a laboured and lucky 1-0 win and it’s not even close
Ideally we have a way better future from here on in under TFG…so suddenly the Everton & England No1…isn’t in a relegation team (despite being the reason were still a prem team).

He’s in a team pushing for Europe, then pushing for Champs league and if TFG get it right were pushing for league & cups.

Narrative will change as we go up the league.

As sadly most pundits focus only on top of league and everything below 8th their interest wanes

Exactly this….

Clear agenda and has been for some time.

Simple fact is that he is the best English keeper and should be englands number 1 (European football or not).

And arguably one of the top England goalkeepers of all time.

We all had our reservations 5+ years ago, but these last 5 years for both Everton and England he has been class.

Fed up of the national agenda against him!

Media don’t like that he plays for Everton and a lot of them can’t get over what happened to their wet dream Van Dijk. Absolutely kill them that he’s by far and away England’s best keeper and one of the best international keepers at almost every major tournament he’s been at. I remember Seaman, Robinson, David James, Joe Hart make howler after howler and they didn’t get as much constant questioning over their position as Pickford does who has been perfect for England.

So true!

Shame for Pickford. He should have 5 or so more caps where he's been benched under the pretence of they need to make sure people have experience.

If anyone plays a blinder they'll probably keep them in the jersey, but luckily for Pickford they keep on playing crap when they get a chance.

Very strange by the manager to not play him to be honest.

What's he going to learn by playing Kyle Walker that we don't already know (that he's finished at this level)? Or Dean Henderson, does he need further confirmation that he's nowhere near Pickford's level or something? Ivan Toney, Curtis Jones, Jordan Henderson, Ezri Konsa, Reece James and probably Dan Burn should be absolutely nowhere near that squad.

Let's be honest though, the English players just aren't all that. Some of them produce flashes of magic for their domestic clubs, but hardly any of them are genuinely world class.

Anyway, I think Spain will once again start to rule world football in the coming years.

Remember when they clamoured for Pope, and he got a game against Hungary and lost 4-0?

Similar vibes.

Not saying Pickford is the best goalkeeper in the land, but given his exploits for England over the years, Colombia in Russia, Penalty saves in final of Euro2020, a second final in 2024... the disrespect is wild.

Throughout my time, i can remember a catalogue of English GK Errors. Seaman in 2002 vs. Brazil, Green in 2010, Robinson Vs. Croatia, Joe Hart countless times...

Competition is absolutely vital, but let's not feign a rivalry. Someone will come and usurp him at some point, but based on last night GK is the least of England's concerns.

Tuchel won't be stupid enough to leave Pickford out when it matters most
Yeah, but I think he's arrogant enough to leave him out and stick with Henderson. I'm surprised how many managers are blinkered and refuse to admit they were wrong with their choices.
After tonight Henderson should not be in the squad, never mind the team, got his chance and blew it.

I don’t get this whole needs to play in Europe thing.
If we qualified for Europa league we’d be playing the likes of Roma, Lyon etc.
In the league we are in surely playing the likes of city, arsenal, them lot etc is a higher standard?
It’s not like playing in Europe would then elevate the standard of player we are playing against

Neither do I. I thought there was a major problem with there being too much being asked of players and that players welfare was at stake with the demands put on them, demands that could have serious effects on the players well being. Then you have FIFA setting up a new World club competition that goes on for the summer holidays, Uefa adding games to the CL, and the like of Tuchel saying he wants his England players playing European football. And we wonder why the players turn up for the Euros and World Cup every other summer and look completely knackered after the group games.
