Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I personally thought Thelwell did okay with the financial problems we had throughout his tenure, he had to cut the wage bill which he did and not everyone, including me liked that so much. But opinions on players, managers, dof's differ i understand that. My liking of Zats post was over Maupay, there was no way he signed him, that had Bills fingerprints all over it. Anyway I certainly hope this new regime do better than the last, because then all Evertonians win, but the juries out, let's wait and see, just hope they are given better financial support, than Thelwell got, they have got a better PSR position and a lot of that is down to Thelwells transfer strategy, like it or not throughout his time at Everton.

Personally if your saying that the DoF had nothing to do with one signing then he had nothing to do with any signing and vice versa.

I couldnt stand kenwright but theres no way he went "we need a striker, lets bring maupay". I dont believe that for a second, kenwright would of wanted a chris wood type of player.

See that Toloveri fella is saying we would consider selling Beto to Leeds for £25m. Hope not. We have a lad who has shown he can score goals in the Prem. They are hard to come by and cost big bucks. We need to sign another to compete with him, not start weakening ourselves further.
We surely can’t lose him on top of DCL. Even if we have the finances to get two replacements it can take years for strikers to settle in the PL so an enormous risk bedding in two new ones at once.

Beto has the benefit of two years PL experience, not all of it brilliant but all valuable and he has shown real improvement. Crazy to give another PL team the benefit of that bedding in process just when he’s hitting a bit of a stride.

as it stands our strongest starting XI and bench is: -

---------------------Pickford-----------------------

O'Brien--------Tarkowski------Branthwaite----Mykolenko

------------------Gueye*------Garner--------------------

McNeil------------------Alcaraz-------------------N'diaye

--------------------------Beto------------------------------

Bench: Tyrer*, Patterson, Coleman*, Keane*, Iroegbunam, Harrison-Armstrong*, Chermiti*

*this is on the understanding that Gueye and Coleman accept their new contracts and Keane agrees to stay on reduced terms and that Coleman's contract includes a player role and that Tyrer, Chermiti and Harrison-Armstrong are not loaned out next season

I have high hopes for Harrison Harrison-Armstrong this year.

Right now (assuming DCL goes) Beto is worth a lot more than £25m to us.

I think you’ll be disappointed then. Villa and Newcastle are very good sides (yes we beat Newcastle away, it’s football). Add them to City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, and improved Spurs/Man Utd sides, and the top 6 is a huge ask.

Moyes can keep us in games and we’ll nick some tight ones, but lose others.
Disappointment is something I'm used to, being an Evertonian of 60-plus years, but I'm also the eternal optimist - in a Walter Mittyesque sort of way - and a David Moyes disciple, so nothing is going to shake my belief.

Personally can't believe we would let him go for that. Given his performances this last season he's likely to bag maybe 15 next season, you can't buy a striker that will pretty well guarantee that number of goals for £25m so it would make no sense whatsoever. Beto needs to be kept and added to not sold and replaced.

Not being personal here about Bill or anyone else, but our MO at that time was premier league experience and that came from the top. Thelwell had a mixed success rate, don't think anyone would argue with that, but he was working under strict financial circumstances, everyone knew that we were in deep trouble with psr, before he arrived here and that the wage bill and savings had to be made.

As of today, we only have 13 first team players under contract, probably the only club in world football right now with such a small squad. It is imperative to see action in the next few days if we want to give moyes the tools he needs in pre season to be successful. I can see us going into pre season with a squad full of u21s to make up the numbers which for me is unacceptable. Not only it affects the u21s development but it is not helping moyes to build his system with players coming in throughout July and august. So far, not so great from Angus and company...

He was the director of football at the time he signed him. He had to agree to bring him in.

You cant praise him for bringing o'Brien in then say he had nothing to do with maupay

It's been an open secret that Kenwright and/or Moshiri went against Thelwell and signed Maupay for premier league experience.

Thelwell if i remember correctly wanted https://www.transfermarkt.com/serhou-guirassy/profil/spieler/270541#google_vignette
