2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

So, he runs the contract down after two years. Nobody has explained the structure clearly. This Charly is a winner as we have all seen and with a 2+1 deal he will be off to Athletico on a freebe to join his Argie mates.
All this depends on how well we progress in the league. If we recruit well and start to challenge for Europe, players will want to stay at the club rather than look elsewhere. This will always be the way.

PSR is only around for another year, might as well go out and smash it to bits, the % to income is coming in next year with our improved income from the new ground and much of the high earners punted it makes sense to give short deals this year, Get him off the books quickley.

PSR and % of income are just two different measures of the same thing.

The deal is a bit paradoxical really, the better he does the worse a two year deal with and option looks, the worse he looks the better a 2 year deal looks.
Think the wages were agreed as part of the loan deal, but perhaps the length of contract wasn't - saw some reports that he's not on huge money at all - like £40k-ish. Understandable he wouldn't want to be locked down on a contract where he's earning below par if he is a starter for us - my money says that if he does well next season, we'll see a new contract agreed next summer on very improved terms

If he’d signed a 3 year deal and went down hill we’d all be moaning about it. This new approach is refreshing to me. It has nothing to do with a lack of money, it’s called being cautious and not wasting money, something a lot of us have been shouting out about for the last few years.

That would be my take mate, we activated an option, wages were agreed, but there were parts of the deal his agent could drive a truck through and did. The length of the deal ,means the club need to be looking at it again in Jan - more so if he does well.

Despite the above Paddy Boyland said today it was the club who wanted and led the two years with an option - which if true tells is two things. 1. The manager is still undecided about him and his tone and 2. We have another deal and of more work to do planned for that attacking/midfield 10 spot. ;)

To play devils advocate mate - he’s 22, on the outskirts of a World Championship Argentina Squad and has influenced the goal scoring and match winning of a few PL games.

If he came through at another club or even this we’d be trying to tie him down to a 4/5 year deal.

Harrison Armstrong signed a 3 and half year deal with a club option for another year.

Charly is an asset and it’s as much about asset management as anything.

I dont want to get my expectations up as so many times things connected with Everton kick you in the teeth.
As of right now he's James Mcfadden. Anything positive for next 2 years will be a bonus.

Thing for me mate is he’s already influenced results at Everton in clutch moments, creatively providing and scoring especially away.

Don’t temper Faddy doing that too often.

I think Moyes sees him as a useful away day player if I’m honest. I don’t think we’l see him start all our games.

I really hope not because from what ive seen its hardly like he's carried in games even if not in it that much. We've had lots of players(to many) who have not been performing but arent seen as "luxury" and stay on the pitch. This lad looks like he can turn a game.
I just hope its not an anti climax as ive taken to him already due to the absolute lack of guile and quality ive been watching for the past few years.

I understand it is a psr move. If we trigger the third year it is negative money on PSR so we have more to spend that summer. Not 100% sure if correct

I'd love to understand the thinking on it from the club if they're the ones who pushed for that

I’m a huge fan mate, it’s a special thing for a lid to break lines and transition the play like he can.

I’m also a huge Moyes fan, whom I don’t think rates this lad as highly as most Everton fans do, maybe I’m wrong, maybe he wants to keep him humble and grounded - he certainly won’t get a big head.

If I’m reading it right, my opinion would be Moyes is going to bring someone in for that attacking midfield/10 spot - then I think he will play Charly in away games or games where we might not have lots of possession on the counter. Just my take.

I like the lad and as i said he will be handy to play in cup runs are to rest someone. But people got the wrong end of the stick , i expect him to play, but he should be the standard of the subs we bring on ,no more two goal keepers crap centre half or youth team player there to make the numbers up they should be his level or better.
