2024/25 Charly Alcaraz

Would have been utter madness not to sign him..

As I have just given the “hot-take” every blue already has, I’ll ask a question:

Is (should he) be first choice or more of a super sub?

Moyesy will have sleepless nights playing Charly and Ndiaye together without his core Doucs. No chance of us having any other flair players

I dont know. Maybe.

But do you think a 1 in 7 game scoring ratio is a bad return for a MF in this era for the club?
My take is most players should be aiming to score goals whether that be from attacking play or set pieces that gives defenders more opportunities to score. 1 in 7 feels under baked but not woeful. What is woeful is assists. His numbers should be way way higher as should a few more of our players.
This is Doucoure joint 114th this season on assists. It's simply not good enough considering his game time & position.

I was thinking along similar lines with the third year option being for materially higher wages i.e. gets a good bump if he's proved he's worth it or can find another deal and signing on fee elsewhere.

If Charly does well I suspect the club will have to renegotiate in a year or 18 months then he and his agent are holding the cards mate.

Like I say I think the wage was baked into the deal and his agent has negotiated the least amount of time he can be on the least wage - that’s his job.

The thing also to remember on his Amortisation is it’s about 6 mill a year, but it’s balanced by his wage which is very low for what we are getting so from a cost of point it balances out.

Another way to think of it, is we paid 12 mill for him, he’s worth more then that now, he’s likely to be worth more in 12 months, if we’ve paid 6 mill in ammortisation and sell him for 25 mill we’ve booked a nice little profit.

Yeah, he's not great. But he's very useful to have if you're fighting to stay in this PL.

If I were Sunderland I'd be in there for him, because that young team will need the sort of experience, workmate and goals he can offer.

Through lack of positive product he actively puts you in a relegation battle. My favourite thing about Doucoure was his finishing. He has some well taken goals but those fleeting highlights are not worth the downsides. To stay on topic I hope Charlie's failings can be easily covered up by goals & assists.
