Youve just made me realise I was told a couple yrs ago that it's not needed til I'm 50, but in the last couple years my dad has had it and recovered so I reckon I will insist rather than waiting the couple years

Just ring up gp. They can be reluctant, hence the " dont take no for an anaswer"
I had no symptoms.

I didn't expect anyone else to bother, and I had to go to pen and paper to find my error.

Had my psa checked few months ago my dad died of prostate cancer told me then get checked every year, doctors surgery always seem reluctant if so say it's in the family they have no choice... shocking that there isn't a system in place for men...get it checked everyone catch it early and outcome is good

From what I've learned from my doctor, the blood tests are more reliable than the physical palpation exam as the latter requires a pretty trained doctor to know what to feel, and in any case one can only feel one side of the prostate not all of it in the physical exam. Get the blood antigen test...I pay out of pocket to check once or twice a year...money well spent IMO.

Just goes to show you as I’ve been told the PSA test can be misleading.
I’ve have ones that have varied quite significantly, equally certain exercises are to be avoided along with, ahem, being familiar with one’s self, 24h prior to the test.
That said they remain a critical indicator of potential issues and should, imho, be compulsory for preventive screening over 50.
