2024/25 James Garner

Had a very decent game, its an area we need more competition but he seems to have fallen into that bracket of midfielder who if he doesn't score or assist gets slaughtered by our gammon-y fan base
Yup. pretty much.

I despise the term "score or assist" it is far too overused as well.

Garner is fine. He is never a world beater, he is never awful either, he's fine. Perfect squad man to have.

Quietly gets on with his business, the sort of player you notice when he's out.
For the past two seasons, it has been apparent time and time again that our best midfield partnership is Garner alongside Gana Gueye. You are absolutely correct in that you notice when Garner is out because that partnership is broken up and we often appear vulnerable when it happens.

I am a fan of Garner, but would just like to see him offer something more in terms of attacking output. We saw that he is capable of it when we played Leicester and he provided that through ball to Beto, so I would like to think that there is something we can build on with him. At the same time, he has probably been unlucky not to score more as he seems to have a decent shot on him.

Definitely not good enough long term and this ā€œhe’s fineā€
Fine isn’t good enough, he also only has a year left, so we need to make a decision this summer, I know we have quite a lot to do this summer and looks, Like gana will be going. So not ideal, but we get 15mil it will be a decent profit that could be used to get us 2 better starters

Like him a lot, does what he's asked to without kicking up a fuss...

I reckon with better options around him we'd see a better output
I’ve seen Beto, will better With better players,
Ndiaye will be, Alacarz will be, McNeil as well and now garner. How does that actually work, if we don’t replace any of them

You can see it with Garner though, he gets his head up and looks for a pass...

All too often his options were Harrison, Duke or lindstrom which usually ended up with us losing possession...

A decent right winger and alcaraz playing regularly would see us much more comfortable in possession and increase the options for him to play to....

Alcaraz, and beto are always looking to drive forward....

Alacaraz and ndiaye together give each other the chance to interchange and link up well....

No not for me. He hardly gets assists
Or creates anything, good players still stand out in poor/average sides, you see it all
The time. Look at Ndiaye, the pass for beto
Was against one of the worst defensive sides in the league. We got told he had brilliant delivery amd takes a great free kick. When we bought him, that was in the championship the season before,
Maybe that’s his level, because his set pieces in the prem have been horrendous.

If we’re in and around the top 7 in 2 years, garner will be nowhere to be seen

'Support your local utility player'*

We don't have the success or cash yet to have specialist back ups in each position, and garner will not only cover for others but also start his fair share of games.

Important player, because of versatility. Has also shown he can thread a needle with a pass, but doesn't always have options to hit. Imagine a side where opposition can't so easily double mark N'Diaye. More options, more space, more breaks, more us on the front foot instead of them.

Massively underrated by the majority of our fans. He brings a calmness to the midfield. Not afraid to put his foot in either but he does need to chip in with more goalsz

He won’t get all the accolades, but does the important things well. He’s actually one of our better footballers. Technically very very sound.
