2024/25 Michael Vincent Keane

Does make me laugh that he put 2 great performances in as the last 2 games of his contract to even make people consider it without being sick.

Depends entirely on wages, and whether we have enough resources and time to get everything else done.

….i’d have never thought I’d be saying this but the contract situation is such a mess (I think I read 10 players involved today are out of contract next season), that we can’t replace them all.

As I posted in the ‘squad analysis’ thread, Moyes has got a tune out of this group that puts us up there. He’ll be thinking the base isn’t that bad if he can add real quality in 4 or 5 positions. What I also like is contract offers the club won’t shift from, so if Keane is here I think it’ll be in keeping with his position as a squad player.

It’ll only be short-term, 2 years max.
The concern I also have is that whilst it’s a mess now, given contract lengths this will keep reoccurring in the future when contracts are this aligned and expire together. We need to break that cycle by retaining some players whether palatable or not.

Which I doubt we will so some unpopular decisions to retain staff will need to be made

I'd like to see him leave. But realistically he should become 4th choice CB next season if we actually recruit in the RB position which we really must.

Main CB options should be Branthwaite, Tarks and O'Brien.

With either Keane or someone else becoming 4th choice option. Would hopefully mean that even if he stays he shouldn't grace the pitch with his presence very often

How many sleeps to Contactendmas for this guy?

Without wanting to seem churlish (he seems a nice guy and when on top of his game is a decent defender), he is on too much money and is too error prone and can cause disarray in our defence far too much to ever be considered for another contract.

Surely Burnley would have him back or a promoted team would offer a decent contract. He just isn't of the requisite quality for an Everton player.
