Retired now, used to work in Runcorn,
Do the starlings still swarm and roost on the old Runcorn/widnes bridge
A few .months ago I posted about our resident swans on the reserve known as Mr and Mrs Bumble.
Earlier this year I posted that some spillage in the canal meant the couple had to go to a Swan Hospital to be cleaned up.
They were then releaseda couple of miles up the canal
They got into a fight with some rival Swans and flew off.
They manage to rescue Mrs Bumble and bought her back to the reserve.
Unfortunately they never found Mr Bumble so the last few months Mrs Bumble has been rather depressed, that much so that her four Cygnets born last year have hung around a lot longer than they usually do.
3 of them have now gone but one has stayed with his Mom.
We all excited to say that Mrs Bumble has been nesting for a few days and has laid 2 eggs.
We not sure if she found a new mate or she has bred with her Cygnet, although Swans don't usually inter breed.
We wait in anticipation to see if the eggs are fertile.

That's why we a bit worried they might not be fertile, she may have just laid through habit, she has been turning them so hope it turns out well as she been through so muchHang fire on that one, as Swans normally lay more than two eggs, so Iād think there could be more coming !
Itās also late for her to be nesting, as they normally nest late March - mid April, so it could be sheās late in finding a mate ?
Either way itās great news![]()
Iāve seen swans fight before and one swan was just sitting on the other sticking its face in mud when it tried to move whilst his mate watched on all happy.A few .months ago I posted about our resident swans on the reserve known as Mr and Mrs Bumble.
