Yup, but it’s deliberately engineered outrage to stifle opposition.

Do you seriously think the ex-Spurs striker Lineker hates Jews?

Or do you think he is against genocide, the deliberate starvation and targeting of civilians, and the bombing of Aid trucks?
It doesn't matter what I, as an individual, think. I do agree it's being used to attack the opposition but at the end of the day it doesn't matter.

As soon as it can be construed in an offensive manner and linked back to his employer then that's how its going to go. You've got to be very careful what is publicly linked to your name, and through that to your employer's name.

He can't argue he was unaware of the connotations of having a rat emoji on an Israeli spokesperson and he should have known better than to publicly associate himself, and therefore the BBC, with that content even if he agreed with the message in private.

There is no "Free Speech" as far as your employers are often concerned. If you can be connected to them, which Lineker as a public face of the company can, then anything you post or say can be associated to the employer.

As a 64 year old I understand this concept is harder to come to terms with but younger people have grown up knowing anything they post can get tagged back against them now or in the future.

Nobody is claiming his posts are a part of his job.

During your time in the world of professional horticulture did anyone ever stop you in the street while you were out shopping and say "It's your job to divide hostas and graft rootstock not be out buying food!"

People can do stuff outside of work.
BBC regulations state otherwise & your comparison is way of the mark - even though I agree with GL - he in the past has been warned to stay to his day job by the BBC - he has admitted he has left before he would have been sacked .....

Other than the police, I doubt anyone would stop Joey when he was out in the High St shopping, as he was either too busy throwing cans of chickpeas at passing cyclists or his missus would be loaded up like a pack horse with Makway curried noodles and tinned tomatoes.

Employers have laws in your contract of employment & terms & conditions - GL has broken these before & had been warned - you just stick to your day job - even though what is going on is deplorable - its his choice & he has given his job up ok !

The current affairs thread closed down- advocating my point - football & outside politics should not mix ! posters using Gary Lineker resignation to revitalise politics is the main reason he had to leave his current employer- he is now a multi millionaire- good luck to him in the future he has other media jobs outside the BBC anyway!
I posted a newsflash not a political debate!

Football and politics are extremely intertwined unfortunately for you. Especially in today’s day and age. States own football clubs in order to wash their image for political reasons.
