We get this line in Canada too. The UK and Canada do not have Absolute Free Speech and never have. There are always restrictions, even in America the bastion of free speech you won't get away with everything carte blanche.

Mate, you're throwing out anecdotal evidence and again this isn't between anyone but Gary Lineker and his employer.

If you're employed by anyone these days you can't be having any opinions anyone can link back to you or the employer through you. That's just become standard.

Once it hits the net and the association is made between you, whatever someone finds offensive, and your employer that's going to be a short conversation while they sack you.

Otherwise you get the other side of it like they got with Saville where because nothing was done they're accused of being an institution and organization riddled with covering up and protecting those people.

No "Free Speech" law is stopping you getting sacked if the employer thinks you've said something as public representative of their image that they don't agree with.

I do not have the time to covertly monitor whoever is exposing secrets this week. When my news and opinion pieces are being dictated to by committee thinking know-nothings, because of some temporary allegiance to their paymasters milk & honey, then simply, the system has failed.
This entire fiasco plays into the realm of farage and 'you can't say anything these days'. Lets go the whole hog; because I go to one church, I'm offended at the sight of all the rest. And the worshippers are even worse, they need to go as well.
How far does this go? Is the only person allowed an opinion, popular or not, some vagabond? Doesn't have a job so has nothing to lose.

The stasi operated on complete surveillance, grasses on grasses, what you read, how often you went to church, who your pals were, or weren't.
