Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

Why can’t we sign a good centre back and have Tarkowski as the backup?
How far do you want to take that logic? Why don't we just sign 11 good players and have the whole starting 11 as back ups? The answer is we don't have unlimited funds and higher priorities than signing a centre back better than Tarkowski and Obrien.

Not even saying I want Keane to sign again but if he does it's because we have much bigger holes in the squad and the one cheap decent option Egan Riley didn't want to come

I think people would be shocked how few players at the same level as Keane would be happy as 4th choice cover at centre half for as cheap as he is
There are loads of young cbs out there who would jump at the chance to come in and have a shot at the prem. That’s what a 4th choice cb for Everton should be right now. Someone to come in, learn, and prove they deserve a chance. We don’t need Michael Keane as 4th choice.

I like the sentiment but surely the role you're describing there is just an academy player.

Any promising young centre back will either not want to be behind 3 other centre halves, not cost only 2 mill or need to go on loan and play games. Keane started 10 games this season, I would rather he start 10 games than Reece Welch or Aled Thomas. That might be the difference between a few places in the league

He's too young to have as a number two keeper. If Pickford gets injured we'd need someone with Prem experience.
Virginia didn`t have that until we played him... the number 2 and 3 will not play and I`d be happy to see those keepers given a chance, already on the books so costs us no more. We really got to get away from the Prem experience mantle, it does us no favours, EVERY player Brighton buys do not have Prem experience and they`ve gone along just fine.

Same with Brentford to a large degree...

Tamen and Welch are the 2 main CBs for the U21, we signed Tamen in August when he was 18 so the time to look at stepping up is now, I`m sure Moyes will want to see the promising youngsters in pre season. I`d like to see a few eased in since we`ve been safe for a fair while... keeps it a bit more interesting than seeing the same 11-15 players every week.

It`s different when it is one of your own.

You’d have to do some scouting but I doubt Stones and Branthwaite thought they’d be coming in and playing right away. Branth had a loan. Stones didn’t. Both turned into top quality players. I’d rather make another lower league or foreign league signing on potential than continuing with someone we all know is a disaster more often than not.
