New Everton Stadium

You're trying too hard here mate.

It's a PR disaster. It's a humiliation for fans.

That stadium has just had the shine taken off it big time.

"You're trying too hard here mate." Says the High Priest of Hyperbole himself 🤣

"It's a PR disaster. It's a humiliation for fans." 🤦‍♂️

I imagine many of these same fans were militant Labour in the 80s, refusing to accept the socioeconomic war had been lost decades before and the world had moved on.

A lot of the protest is Rage against capitalism or the name isnt a big corporate name - which are quite conflicting stances.

Also 3 months people will be giving out if the owners aren't spending or the club is making money, a lot of the critique is contradictory.

The fact that a law firm has enough resources to fund a deal like this tells us lawyers are overpaid! 😆

I read it's a local firm, you'd expect DLA Piper to have that kind financial muscle. Instead...

Anyway, the name looks cool. A bit old fashioned. To the ears of a foreigner, it sounds like a typical British imperial name. A Victorian name. I don't know why.

Anyway, this new ground looks fantastic, you should be happy to be on the verge of a new era.

Are there rumors about the inauguration show? I expect Paul McCartney to play. What about a reunion with Pete Best, who, as I read on Reddit, is a certified evertonian? That would be pretty remarkable.

I kind of agree, especially after City won the case against the PL for having sponsorship with links to the owner, The Toyota stadium would have ideal. It's what we have now, I'll probably never call it the Hill Dickinson stadium, I'll just say Bramley Moore I know media will be obliged to use the official name but we the fans don't have to.

No fans really ever use a sponsor name. There may be a few exceptions but no sponsor is expecting their name to be constantly mentioned by fans. They don't do it for that.

They get exposure of their name on the stadium, they get mentions of it by the media, as you mentioned. They are using it for psychological advertising, i.e. if it was Pepsi it would be in a person's mind if going to the shop for a drink, etc.

I believe that the 'I wouldn't call it by that name' is going to be the same for absolutely any name that it was given.

I think I'd have been happy to call it the Pepsi stadium or the Toyota Center...

Look at it this way, how would people feel if Goodison had been renamed to the Delta Taxi stadium ? I understand it's extra income but honestly, stadiums shouldn't have their names changed, a name is part of what makes it an icon

We all knew this was going to happen. Part of the reason we are moving is for increased revenue on things like naming rights.

Out of all the egregious sponsors we could have had, this seems pretty inoffensive compared to something like the “STAKE DOT COM ARENA” or some other.

Honestly, I think some people just love to moan regardless.

I’ll probably still call it Bramley Moore as will most, just out of habit more than anything.

The more I read about them, the better I feel about this. Apparently very big internationally in maritime law etc, so you can see why a dockside arena in the city they're headquartered in would make sense for them. Also the historical links to the club make me happy.

Not a glamorous name, but to be fair I guess this is the point - this is a local firm with international reach who are trying to grow and this will be massive for their brand recognition - what would Toyota or whoever gain from naming rights deals when everyone already knows who they are?

My first reaction was "typical Everton this", but having had time to reflect, I'm actually happier than I would have been if it was the Dell Stadium or whatever. Saw someone on Twitter say that to him it'll always be Bramley Moore but now he might call it The Dixie, that works for me.

I think the McCartney thing is a no go mate.
