The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Man Utd getting into the Champions league really would be the most outrageous bit of fortune. They were only in the Europa league to start with after an absolute fluke of an FA Cup win - they absolutely robbed Liverpool blind, and were saved by a marginal VAR call v Coventry.

Not to mention the ridiculous late comeback v Lyon the other week. It’s the most Man United thing ever.
The type of luck they seem to get. They were only in the Champions League in their treble winning season because the season before, they finished second, and it was the first time UEFA let second place teams into the competition and the they were seconds away from being knocked out in the FA Cup and Champions League that season. Basically the type of luck that we as a club never seem to enjoy (possible Wimbledon aside to stay up)

Having said the above I would rather they win than Spurs. Them winning would just be another club winning stuff when we aren’t.

It has been the rule that the Europa winner gets into the Champions league for 10 years tbf.

Does show the strength of the Prem though. The financial power of teams in the bottom half dwarves that of sides finishing 4th elsewhere.
Has it? To be honest, I don't really follow European football so didn't realise that was the case. It's still outrageous though.

Yeah, Unai Emery had the run of three straight Europa Cups and UEFA told him, "Get outta here. Make your money in the CL and let someone else have a turn."

Plus they will more likely blow the extra money the get from champions league on dross compared to Spurs and champions League would allow Spurs attract a better calibre of a manager

Rather Utd than Spurs win it, with some reluctance.

Utds size and revenue will always put them in the mix and them winning it doesn't upset the applecart much.

It would be a get out of jail free card for Spurs at a time when potentially at least, we could hope to have a go at taking advantage of the situation there.

I detest both clubs but I really can't stand Spurs.

are there any obvious relegation candidates for next year other than the promoted clubs?

got to assume united and spurs will improve

west ham havent been great but if they keep hold of the likes of Paqueta, Bowen, Kudus that feels like a bit too much quality

wolves look much improved under Pereira

hopefully we’re kicking on!

crystal palace have 4 players that would walk into most sides in the league

and then fulham, brighton, brentford, bournemouth etc seem too settled and too well drilled sides to fall into that. unless say the later sell some of their stars, lose iraeloa

be horrible if it becomes a closed shop
