The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

I feel if Moyes had been here to start the season that some of those late-match losses after being ahead or times we played for draws would be three points. Going out on a limb, I think we could have been sitting around 55-60 points.
Oh, I don't think that was purely manager-related. Moyes's team blew 2-0 leads at home to both Man United and Ipswich.

What's the common denominator?

The players.

This will be an interesting run-in for ourselves and the club's surrounding us (Wolves, West Ham, Man Utd, Spurs), but I cannot see our mini-league garnering much outside attention.

Nobody, however, will want to finish 17th this season. In years gone by, 17th may well have been a safe haven - a guaranteed place in the top flight. Yet, there is now a race to avoid finishing 17th and therefore avoid finishing bottom of the mini-league. In order to avoid that, we need to win at least one of our final two games to guarantee that Tottenham cannot catch us.

We're easily favourites to finish above United and Spurs now. To think one of those teams will get Champions League football next season. Something is broken. It's the kind of thing that would happen to the RS.
It's mad. Once you remove the three relegated clubs, either Spurs or Utd could finish bottom of the Premier League (17th) and still qualify for the Champions League. Like you said, something is broken.

Palace away and brentford at home tough imo, west ham have forest home ipswich away. United have chelsea away villa home, spurs have villa away btighton at home

They are playing Palace 3 days after an FA cup final, whichever way that result goes could impact how much effort they put into the Wolves game. Brentford could be in a position where that becomes a dead rubber by that final game.

Saying that Wolves could have decided it's flip-flop time and not care a jot, who knows. All I said was they are winnable and I stand by that. On our current form we are more likely to mess up against Southampton and get a result at Newcastle such is the topsy-turvy nature of the league at the moment. I can't see us winning both though.

Man Utd getting into the Champions league really would be the most outrageous bit of fortune. They were only in the Europa league to start with after an absolute fluke of an FA Cup win - they absolutely robbed Liverpool blind, and were saved by a marginal VAR call v Coventry.

Not to mention the ridiculous late comeback v Lyon the other week. It’s the most Man United thing ever.

It has been the rule that the Europa winner gets into the Champions league for 10 years tbf.

Does show the strength of the Prem though. The financial power of teams in the bottom half dwarves that of sides finishing 4th elsewhere.

Hopefully we can find enough passion in the Southampton game for 3 pts. I'm thinking Newcastle is an almost certain loss.
