People tend to forget that the one good Martinez season, when you look at our xGA, was massively influenced by Howard having the season of his life.

Generally speaking, he was a decent keeper. Southall, Martyn, Pickford and Howard are the only keepers we've had in the PL era who were any good at all. The rest were terrible. The fact he makes that list says he was decent.
Martinez replacing him with Robles was bananas.

Sparked by discussion in the Pickford thread. Tim Howard was a long serving Everton player, but doesn't seem to be regarded well.

Proud owner of 100 clesn sheets for Everton, stalwart of some of our better recent(ish) league performances, and hero of a semi-final penalty shoot out? Or flappy starfish jumping error waiting to happen?

Please discuss.
A good servant - but an ordinary goalkeeper, technically, who elevated his performances through application and personality. A likeable player in our history.

Solid goalkeeper for the most part of his Everton career but that clown Martinez kept him around as number 1 for far too long, and those dire performances when he was well past his sell by date are sadly the abiding memory many of us would have from his time here.

Seems a good blue though and a decent pundit from what I've seen.

He was nearly in tears at his last game, which shows his love for club. With regards to his ability as a goalkeeper, he was a decent enough shot stopper, but was completely inept at dealing with crosses. Didn't agree with a lot of abuse that Ginger gimp Ped gave him. We all knew Howard's flaws, but at same time he made a lot of decent saves over his time at Everton. You get what you pay for, we weren't gonna get a world class keeper for amount we paid for him.

Conceded some of the weirdest looking goals I’ve ever seen. Used to dive backwards into the net. Did star jumps.

Tl;dr - he was crap.

In a roundabout way he won the Prem for Leicester. We were giving them a routine beating at Goodison when they looked odds on for the drop until he gifted them a couple of goals. As they say the rest is history.
I seem to remember us being at least Leicester's equals in both the home and away games that season, but losing both.
In any event, they won the league by 10 points, so I'm not sure that Tim Howard had such an impact overall.

I didn't mind him. Nigel Martyn was under-rated if any keeper is from recent times.

In general we do have decent goalies.
