In a roundabout way he won the Prem for Leicester. We were giving them a routine beating at Goodison when they looked odds on for the drop until he gifted them a couple of goals. As they say the rest is history.

My god I’d forgotten how bad both of those goals were hahahaha

Thought he was solid and reliable enough until we got to the Martine flappy jumping starfish years and those weren't all his fault but rather because we couldn't afford a replacement.

I mean we played Joel Robles instead of him because he had gotten that bad and we were that skint.

I seem to remember us being at least Leicester's equals in both the home and away games that season, but losing both.
In any event, they won the league by 10 points, so I'm not sure that Tim Howard had such an impact overall.
It was the season 14/15 when they just got over the 40 point mark when they'd looked bound for the drop before a late run of decent results.

Moyes’ last season was possibly his worst ever, I remember particularly thinking that he was a priority to replace that year.

Yes, he was good, but Ive noticed fans here love to re-invent a players career based on their last year or two. Its more fun to throw out everything in favor of the worst moments and the end of their career, much like people currently try and do with Seamus.

Its quite alright for a keeper to be not as good as Southall or Pickford and still have done well.

Well I think Howard had 2 or 3 good seasons and then was pretty terrible from 2009 onwards.

I have to say I think thats revisionist history. From the year Howard came in on loan, until 2014 we were such a better defensive side, our best stretch in the PL by far. It was only his last two years we started shipping goals again. 2011-2014 was 40, 40, and 39. We had a champions league defensive record for those years.

His save percentage in those years was all where Pickfords is now, it was just his first 2-3 years were so good that the expectations were sky high. Id suggest he was elite for a couple of years, and then "merely" good after that, until poor at the end.

He had a better team in front of him than Pickford, though. Tim was a perfectly serviceable Premier League keeper but he doesn't come close to some of our other keepers and I'm not sure he could ever have been described as "elite".

He was OK to below average compared to the rest of the side. If we had a Jaaskelainen, Schwarzer, Friedel or Given we might have won something.
