Joe Royle

Joe,Colin Harvey, Derek Temple,Tony Kay and a few more diminishing names, they are the link to a time when we stood for something amongst the real giants of the game, god we need to start creating a new chapter soon but I worry we are too far gone to recreate anything anywhere near those fellas legacies to us.👍💙
It’s a long journey from where we are now to where we once where.
We have lost too much ground to recover our former status in my lifetime I just hope we can begin the journey whilst I can witness it .

Got any of him in his white underwear Joey?

With all respect to David Moyes and one or two others he was the last proper manager of this club. He was the last manager to put a trophy into the trophy cabinet.

He never lost to the rs as our manager as well. He bled Blue and believed that Everton FC should bow down to and fear no one.

Top Blue, top player and a top manager is big Joe Royle.

saved for reasons beyond reason.

Will always wonder what could have been with Joe leading us. Could have been the start of something great.

Was a real false dawn wasn't it? Signed Kanchelskis on the back of the cup win which was exciting and also got Barmby from Boro for 5m or so early in the 1996 season, he was starting for England at the time so he was backed in that period and the form in first half of 96/97 was pretty solid.

Then lost 4-2 at Boro on Boxing Day 1996 and everything fell apart.

Will need to re-read the Everton in the 90s book again as they cover him leaving in great detail. Seems there was a real breakdown in comms between him and Johnson. Went into a meeting thinking Johnson wanted him to resign, he did resign and then afterwards Johnson said he didn't want him to go?!

Was a poor end to that season with luckily enough points on the board already to just stay up and that downbeat feeling continued into the next season.

He wasn't another Kendall in the making but I'm sure give him the signings and backing Walter Smith initially got and would've been a couple more solid top half finishes under him.
