Still think Moyes has this habit of giving back handed compliments to players. Not saying he should be like Martinez but Beto’s goals pretty much got us to plus 40 points and kept his reputation intact.

He's just sung the praises of a player who's out of contract in the summer though.

He's a wee bit Beckford. I really didn't mind Beckford. Never an accomplished player in a million years but potted a few for us.

Who also scored 10 goals for us I recall (blammo against Bolton and against the RS at the pitt).

Indeed. He had the bizarre knack of the bounce going for him or scuffs and mishits going in. In fairness to him his movement was pretty decent. Quite like strikers who get in there and get the luck.

This is as high as his stock will be. If we can make a PSR profit I'd be tempted to sell but equally I'm happy with him as an impact sub but one thing is for sure , we desperately need a starting No9.

Once again his goal has came from being fed through in behind (like almost all his Udinese goals) rather than just lumping it at his head cos he's 6"3

I get the feeling that he isn't insulting, rather that Moyes is making it clear that there are areas of his game that Beto must continue to work on to progress further.

How is that different to what most people openly say on here: he's awkward and his touch and hold up play need improving a fair bit?

Whether he can do that at his age is another question, hence the mentioning of his age.

Exactly this. Beto looks like a striker who came to the professional game late (which of course he is) and has probably not been used as a target man before when playing in professional games around other European leagues but he’s willing and trying to improve which is great. His movement and finishing is very good and he’s always a handful for the defenders, Moyes wants him to improve and sounds like Beto does to.

Dom is supposedly brilliant at his all round game yet he or the team could hardly score with him in it - what the point of good all round game if it doesn't lead to an outcome - is it even good if there isn't an outcome......

Also people are being dismissive of other aspects of Betos game - not sure what game people are watching half the time- he gives defenders a torrid time - The Derbies and Palace a case in point, thats a massive influence on the game and our attacking dimension.

DCL isn’t good enough and neither is Beto imo. And you’re taking about knocking CB’s about as a great all round game, think it proves my point. Nobody can watch Beto and think he’s a great striker, yes he aspects to his game, which are good. In some ways he’s a bit like doucoure, a terrible technical player, but has a few strengths to his game.

Of he nets at least one in the last two matches it'd be fair to say in a full season he would have got 14-15 even 16 goals. Next season with better supply the same if not a few more. What is that worth in today's market?

DCL isn’t good enough and neither is Beto imo. And you’re taking about knocking CB’s about as a great all round game, think it proves my point. Nobody can watch Beto and think he’s a great striker, yes he aspects to his game, which are good. In some ways he’s a bit like doucoure, a terrible technical player, but has a few strengths to his game.

That's not true mate, you will find many in the DCL thread.

Hes also not a terrible technical player, some of his finishing is of a very high technical quality, as is touch to create angles for himself and also to beat defenders.

Its not knocking defenders about either mate, rule no 1 of U10s football, is you have to win your on field battle before you can show any quality, that's the same for Messi as it is for Beto, that my friend is the basic and constant of the game.

We need a back up centre back this summer. Expect Keane to leave but not sure who we’re going to get in to replace him that’s willing to be back up but is also an upgrade.

Yep apart from the goals he occupies the thoughts of defenders which can lead to space / opportunities for other players, so it’s quality in those areas we need as a priority. Wanting new strikers with all round game and goals will be taking a sizeable chunk of our budget, whatever that may be.

I think and have said he's an influential player 100% and i would be clearly right.

We certainly won’t be paying the back up £70-80k a week though
