2024/25 Beto

On Beto - "He's done great, he's improving. If he was a 19-year-old striker you'd say he's got a bit to go, he's not but he's certainly improving. Let's hope he can get goals in the remaining games."

On Keane - "Michael Keane was terrific today, he was a proper centre-half. Keane scored a really good header, it was a really good goal."

Ones a comment about our top scorer who's scored back to back recently.

The other is about a CB out of contract at the end of the season.

His comment on Beto doesn't sound great for DCL.

We’d be absolutely crazy to sell Beto in the summer. I don’t think Moyes is that,

Look at the players out of contract, We need replacements in numerous positions. Therefore I can’t see us going all out to get a 20 goal a season proven striker. That’s silly money.

I think Delap is a good shout but he’s also a risk. So having Beto as backup to him is ideal,
I also think that if he does take the plunge on Alcaraz, Beto is the type of striker that suits Alcatraz’s play, running from midfield with through balls. Keeping him as a no2 option, would also add value to Alcaraz, if we buy him for 10-12m

If that was the case he’d play Broja or Cherminti.

He plays him because he’s the best available right now.

Obviously.

But I just get the impression he doesn't rate the lad. If he wanted to leave (if he wants to be first choice etc) or a club came in, I feel he'd gladly depart.

Just find the whole "if he was 19" jibe a bit insulting towards him.

If it was Dom on the same output, he wouldn't say the same.

The other thing we don’t know of course, is how big a budget we have for the summer and what positive talks (if any) have already taken place with other clubs, agents and players to bring in. I agree Moyes doesn’t seem too enthused but he may be looking at Beto through that prism.

there's a bit of a niasse feeling about Beto, he doesnt look like a natural footballer but give him a chance in his area (through balls for Beto, a ball in the box for Niasse) and they are effective. A poor mans Peter crouch even

Moyes said: “He's a great boy, I've got to say. He practises like you can't believe to try and get better, which when you've got that, you know then you've got something - he's trying to get better.

“He's incredibly humble. He is very honest with himself, which gives a manager a great chance to try to improve you.

"So I have to say he's doing great. He's got eight Premier League goals.

“I sort of said to him a couple of weeks ago, I said, ‘look, you might try and get 10’.

“If you think that he has not really played that much, he's only really come on the scene in January, so if he could get another two between now and the end of the season, it would have been a great run of goals for him in the second half of the season.”

I get the feeling that he isn't insulting, rather that Moyes is making it clear that there are areas of his game that Beto must continue to work on to progress further.

How is that different to what most people openly say on here: he's awkward and his touch and hold up play need improving a fair bit?

Whether he can do that at his age is another question, hence the mentioning of his age.

Good finish.

Seen a few “experts” yesterday making out it was a goalkeeping howler.
But Beto hits it early and towards the far corner. Most keepers are getting done there IMO
If Pickford let that in to lose us a game we’d be fumming, it’s an easy save

I think it's a bit of six of one, half a dozen of another, in this instance. All credit to Beto for hitting it hard, low and into the corner with a reactive shot.

That will be make it more difficult for goalkeepers, although the flip side is the distance and angle did make it somewhat saveable for Leno - he got to it.

If you watch it back closely, however, the ball hits the ground and bounces just as Leno is reaching it with his extended arms, which is what has done him.

In the end... if you don't shoot and hit the target, you'll never score.
