2024/25 Ashley Young

No other club would be offering a soon-to-be 40 year old who can only offer a few minutes off the bench (if the word offer can be used) a new contract. Let's hope we don't either. Nothing against him as he's a top pro, but he should never have been brought to the club.

MOTM today. Fulham had clearly prepared a game plan to try to get at us down that flank, presumably thinking we'd be playing a sub par right back. Once that tactic proved futile they ran out of ideas.

I honestly hated seeing him anywhere near the team earlier in the season because he was a massive liability it felt like. Taking risks that he had no chance of recovering from while hardly offering anything going forward to make up for it. Over the course of the season though I think he's maybe realised what he's capable of at this age and while he's still not exactly good I think he's much more reliable and does the job that's needed currently.

I'd only consider keeping him purely as back up utility next season though, he should never be starting as many games as he has. If he's just filling in where needed that's fine but cannot be starting week in week out if we actually want to improve.

….Young is a bloke who can play right back, Patterson is a bloke.

Young just does the basics and when that fails he understands the risk and often puts his opponent on the turf. Amazing professional, presume he’ll start the last two games of his Everton career unless Coleman gets the gig next week.

He did well today and is a nice guy by all accounts. But nostalgia holds us back. He will be 40 years old next season. To even be considering a return for a 40 year old is crazy and shows where we are. 40 isn’t old in life but in a PL defensive line, it is. This should be a clear cut no brainer decision.

He is a better RB than Patterson.

Even at nearly 40.

I think Coleman is nailed on to start next week.

Nostalgia/sentiment has definitely held the club back. It’s the lazy /easy choice a lot of the time and you can see it’s really the tough/smart decision making we desperately need and have done for years.

Please Everton, get it right this summer

Same really bit of experience and just cover across the pitch similar to coleman, actually think if he would accept would be great have him in some role at the club in coaching. Is meant to be a great leader and well to be still playing at a high level at his age
