2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

The answer to that is we have nobody to replace him, this isnt because he is good but more that the squad is threadbare and very short on quality.

We are playing the likes of Doucoure Young Harrison because we dont have anyone else.

A huge summer coming up, the likes of Doucoure can be replaced in a heartbeat, he is in the side for his 'legs' but the fact is he is the biggest culprit for us needing to win the ball back again.

I wasn't really asking as to the reason why we need to replace him mate, more how do we pivot away from what we've created and move on.

For example i think its a dilemma Moyes may face today, is say Charly a better footballer then Doucoure - sure - are we more likely to get a result today with Doucore starting ahead of Charly - probably - because Doucoure enables two lines.

Its that pivot of how we move on - not why. You can go out and you can buy a Soucek a similar, pressing, aesthetic, physical enabler who can flood both lines and really you are just swapping a similar player for another.

Or you commit to a Charly or Illy or a go out and get yourself a creative no 10 or second striker. Or maybe even flip to a 4-3-3 etc.

We might be bad, but he has been one of our most influential players faults and all and he defo influences our results - so we need to plan to pivot away from needing what he brings and how..........?

We need huge change. A "pivot" is here nor there. We need a massive clear-out. Purge and start again. How we do THAT - not how do we pivot - is the question that these geniuses need to answer.

Hopefully he won't play again this season and he'll leave when his contract is up. Very disappointing comments from a player who has been a component of a relegation battling side for several years. Massively overpaid and has underperformed other than some occasional key goals throughout his time at the club.

More yellow cards than goals for our £120,000 a week number 10 attacking midfielder.

In fact, during his entire career in England he's never scored more goals than he's been booked. If he doesn't score again this season his return will be -60% from last season - absolutely no way to go about getting a contract extension.

Disgraceful return this season and should rightfully be told he's no longer required.

Playing into his hands if anyone boos him

If by that do you mean speeds up his decision to accept one of the offers on the table from elsewhere?

The question is how do we pivot away from him - i think we miss him when hes not in the team, we know his limits and what he brings the team - hes an enabler.

I thought Ipswich got the better of us in midfield without him last week.

Im not sure Idrissa and Garner are enough of a two to winning most PL engine room battles without a Doucoure.

….i don’t think it’s a simple matter of replacing him, it needs much better footballers in key positions, even full-backs.

And we will stuck for as long as we give players like DCL, Doucoure or Keane still the chance and offer to extend. Together with Harrison that's around 400k wages for average players at best, which can give easily 5-6 players to have immediate impact to improve.

We know what these players can do (or cant do)

Taking a punt on a 21-22 year old striker/midfielder/defender has way more value than retaining any of these, providing you dont buy from the PL.

Little risk massive reward if it your scouting is good.

Just them 3 players are probably taking up about 30-40% of the wage bill each week and offering zilch, they also would offer next to nothing if they had a new contract and were sold.

From a playing/financial/selling point of view its mad to even consider it.

Jep, but we need to make clever cheap or free agent transfers like Tarkowski as well to bring leadership on the pitch as well, which was missing on the pitch in games against Ipswich or Bournemouth. I don't mind paying 100k to players that are key to us like him or Pickford.

Young and Coleman for example can't do it anymore unfortunately.
