2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Maybe the reason he was dropped last week. I doubt he plays again now and we will release him. Simply put he’s scored some good goals for us but he’s a midfielder with no vision, can’t control, can’t pass, can’t tackle. He’s unfortunately not good enough but has been a good servant. I would say here’s another contract on 75k a week take it or leave it. Same with Dom. I’m happy we are starting to be a bit more brutal.

£75k would be overly generous, not brutal

He views himself as a player out of contract who would not involve a transfer fee and could therefore command a higher salary than his age/talent would normally define. It's the way the game is now. If we let him go we would either have to replace him by paying a transfer fee or bringing in a free agent on a boosted wage.

For me it should revolve over how good the player is, not how much we pay them, and I think it's fair to say we need somebody better.

32 year old Doucoure;
£120k a week over 2 years = £12.48m
End of contract value = £0

22 year old Alvarez (or someone else);
£50k a week over 2 years = £5.2m + £13m fee. Total outlay = 18.2m
End of contract value = £???

I know which one is easier to justify

I'm not being wilfully contrarian but I can't see anything wrong with what he's said.

He thinks he's worth more to the club and we (probably) said we don't agree.

It's the right thing for him and us to move on.

He's been well paid during his time here and his form nosedived, but still appreciate the important goals he scored.

Hope he gets the move/dough he's looking for.

I don't think anyone has a problem that we couldn't agree terms with him, it's the disrespect of airing this matter publicly on a podcast whilst he is still under contract.

He's talking about the club in a negative light. It's not on.

I’d rather us sign this fella

“To be honest, I won’t readjust my salary to stay at the club. I’ve seen Mo Salah get a pay rise"

He's using Salah's new contract as a justification for demanding higher wages. If you can't see why that's problematic, then I'm not sure what else to say.
