2024/25 Nathan Patterson

Ok mate,

The season Lampard was in charge at the start of the season:

Started 11 of the 13. The 2 subs were when returning from injury. As I said, picked when fit (Coleman was fit and on the bench from game 2 that season).

Under Dyche last season he started 9 games of the 32 league games he was available with with 7 of the other 11 appearances being under 20 mins (a few being 1 minute which if you feel you can adequately judge him from 1 minute appearances, fair play to you).
I'm not talking about judging him from a minute?! I'm just saying you always use this 'Dyche never ever picked him but Lampard made him first choice' line and it's just demonstrably not true. Both of them picked him at times, but neither of them seemed totally sold on him.

That season Coleman had an operation over the summer and didn't have any pre-season. At 34 years of age it would have been genuinely astonishing if he'd been put straight into the side days after returning to training, so it's not surprising that Patterson played initially. He then did well and kept his place, which is great. It's just a handful of games though, it's far too short a timeframe to be able to make any sort of judgement on what Lampard really thought or how likely he would have been to continue picking him in the long run. Similarly, it's clear that Dyche did pick him quite regularly, both once he got fit at the back end of that season and for the first half of the next season. He never made him his first choice (which was kind of the whole point being made) but this idea that he just froze him out and never played him is just plain wrong, he was getting regular game time but never made himself the go to right back. That is a pattern that we've seen throughout his career, with that spell of half a dozen games or so under Lampard the closest he's ever got.

It was a good pass.

He got skinned by Enciso not much later however, Enciso should have scored from there.

Not looking too out of place against a Championship attack.

About his level.

Perhaps we could smuggle him aboard the Ipswich bus after the match?

Have enough. This idiot fall down, leaving space behind and they scored from his defensive position. Koff. Get rid.
