2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

A very composed performance from Armstrong today , playing furthest back of a midfield three. His run from midfield, pass and continue with run won a corner which lead to their 2nd goal . Further short bursts with the ball , pass to an attacker, and a willingness to press high upfield while getting quickly back if the attack breaks down are now regular parts of his game . And still lots of energy at the end if 90 mins.
WBA ? We should try to swap Holgate for Isaac Price .
Composed is just the word I was looking for. He looked comfortable, had time on the ball and rarely wasted it. Whether he can play like that in the high tempo of the PL is to be seen, but I was impressed. Certainly can live with the championship level already

He always seems to know where the space is and has developed the habit of letting the ball run across him if an opponent is close and turning into the space. The discussions and different views are around your “ can he play like that in the PL” and how best to develop and prepare him for the PL . Is it more game time and more starts at Championship level or less game time but more exposure to the PL and to PL training with us.? I’m in favour of the latter, but it will be decided in pre season and August initially with potential to review in January.

Mostly sits deep "composed", well positioned and recycles the ball. As stated, also seems to pop up with his "deceptive" running style...calmness personified every game.

What happened with him? Turned us down for a pro contract to move to Liege, played 48 games, came back to play for WBA?

Weird.
Yep pretty much that. Isaac Price backed himself to find a better pathway to first team football via Standard Liege. He looks a decent Championship footballer, I haven’t seen enough of him to judge if he can kick on into the PL but you’d think so.

I wouldn't say that was weird? He took a pro contract here but wasn't breaking through, he took the chance to move abroad and get games for a decent club and now he's moved back to the Championship with a bit more experience and reputation under his belt. Seems pretty normal to me.

I'd go one further and say that he's probably made a good career decision. Trusted he could go abroad and get first team football, rather than sign a deal with s and hope he got enough minutes via a loan eventually

not saying he will go that far but that is a staple of the elite players, always seeming to have a second on the ball and knowing how to use themselves and their position on the pitch to give themselves a yard to work in

dont like giving their lot praise but xabi alonso was the slowest player on the planet but always had time on the ball due to knowing when to take it ahead of him or let it run across him or turn into space
