Women's team to play games at Goodison.

Behave you dinosaur. The women's game is going from strength to strength.
Im not saying it isn't... Merely is it going to fill a 35,000 capacity stadium enough to make it financially beneficial for the operating costs of an aging stadium, and to generate enough atmosphere that it feels full. Nothing worse than being in a half empty stadium. A quick google seems to have attendances ranging from 2000-4000, admittedly this could be way off as I haven't fully researched but to me that seems a little low to justify the move.

It would never work. It's good that the womans game is expanding and I hope it continues too do so but generally our womans team gets between 500 to 2000 for home games. Aside from the fact that even an increase to say 3 or 4k wouldn't be enough to pay for the upkeep of the place alone (never mind staff ect) I cant bare the idea of Goodison living on as an empty shell that hardly anyone ever goes to.

Is the aim not to renovate and make it a smaller, fit for purpose stadium?

I don't know mate. I've heard all kinds of different suggestions about how it could work but a new, smaller stadium the rest of the space being used elsewhere sounds great to me. A 5k stadium that can always be expanded if needs be with the rest of the space used by Everton in the community sounds like a wonderful solution.

Id imagine they'd keep the Park End and the bullens and knock the other two down.

The Gwladys street and mainstand hol
Lots of memories, but they don't exactly offer much in terms of a smaller fanbase.

I'm sure the locals wouldn't be opposed to a smaller venue either.

….i have no strong opinion but they’d surely have to demolish most of the ground because of maintenance and risk concerns. If it can be managed without becoming a money pit then I’d be ok with it.

Even with just the bullens and the park end we'd still be looking at close to 17k mate. Thats still expensive to maintain when the woman are only getting 2k. Just maintaining the park end along with three new, small terrace style stands to go along with it is workable I suppose but it would stll be a very ambitious project as the average womans match attendance would have to triple for it come close to being full.

I think the expense is purely a Revenue stunt, as EWFC and EFC aren't they same.

Even if they knocked every stand down they can still sell the stadium to Everton
Women and the costs offered don't affect everton, but the income from
The stadium sale does.

It isn't really an easy job, but clearly it's a big plus that they're exploring avenues to maximise revenue.

Maybe there`s a bit of long term planning in any thought of keeping hold of Goodison as a home for the ladies. The ladies game is growing and getting big publicity. We are already maintaining a small ground at WHP for the ladies and have the U21`s playing elsewhere, so maybe there`s a thought that by playing at a scaled down ground at Goodison it will get a bigger crowd at a venue that feels like part of our club.
