I don’t think it does defer the problem for another year. If anything it creates a bigger problem as he’ll be on big wages and expected to play. His legs are gone and he’s not even an improvement on having O’Brien playing there out of position
He ain't coming here to be backup fullback to a giant centre half. If he moves it'll be with the world cup in mind. He'll be looking for a club that sees him as first choice.
This is all am asking.
My only thinking behind this is O'Brien stays at RB for 1 more season and Walker is brought in as backup.
Therefore using actual money in other areas.
Good insight, I’d not considered it but it makes perfect sense when you articulate it like that.
Managers do seem to really love the guy as a dressing room presence.
If our options next year for RB are O'Brien, Patterson and Coleman then it will have been a very poor window for us. A CB, a man who cannot stay fit and a player who has failed to win a place under multiple managers is not a plan for a key position.
I genuinely think Kenwright put a block on replacing Coleman. The way we didn’t even attempt to look for a replacement regardless of who was the manager or DOF was just too weird.
You say that but, barring a punt on a young lad from the Scottish league, they've been doing it for years. We've needed a new starting RB for at least five years and nothing. Players for the long term have been signed in just about every other...
This will be an incredibly unpopular opinion but it's because of Coleman. His value to a succession of managers as a bridge between the coaching staff and playing staff, it seems to me, has made them reluctant to seriously look at replacing him...
Signing Walker does nothing solve the RB issue we've had for nearly 10 years.
Why don't we signed RB we can leave in situ for the foreseeable as opposed to constantly signing stop gaps.
I've never ever known a club to neglect a position for so...
Then I guess I don't understand your expectation for our new striker. Banging them in at 20 years of age in a top 4 league? Those guys are out of our price range (and there are only a handful of them).
