It sounds to me like he realises he overstepped the boundary by doing that daft interview - and so he's trying to reframe his position at that time as someone who thought he was our new owner.

No way to know how much truth there is in his story, but he makes it sound like a bullet very narrowly dodged.

Hopefully they drop off as we need about half a dozen players to level the playing field.
