Surely it should be 1 +1. The +1 should be if he plays in 25 premier league games. That way it protects the club and likely gives him the additional year he wants.

Brownhill on a free would be fine and leaves the budget intact. We have a lot of work to do.

On the contrary, I think Brownhill will be an excellent signing. It's about building a strong squad, not cherry picking overpriced, over the hill galacticos. Think about Peter Reid, Trevor Steven, Kevin Sheedy, Paul Bracewell, Tim Cahill, Seamus...

Not a particularly exciting signing but if Armstrong isn’t ready to be a regular then we need 2 new central midfielders to go along with Gueye and Garner.
