I know we all laugh at stuff like that but these mealy mouthed updates are just what happens when people are so desperate for 24/7 updates on everything and say 'it's gone quiet' if they haven't heard new information in 2 days.

Yeah pretty much, which is a bit crazy.

Yeah as a rough guide Yakubu was in the top 10 biggest PL transfers of 2008, which last year would have equated to a something in the £50m bracket I think. A big part of it is just the switch to wide forward/second striker type players scoring...

No that's not what i'm saying at all. I'm saying it's not a 'certainty' that Haaland or Salah will get you 10 goals. It's extremely likely, but it's not certain because they could get injured or just have an unfathomable drop off in form. You...

Of course it's a long way from certain. It wouldn't be certain even if he'd done it every year for the last 5 seasons, it's a long way from certain when he's literally never done it before. Like I said, you'd hope that his scoring record at the...

Well I’d doubt they are nice genuine lads if they earn a fortune every week like Keane has done for the last two years!

I'm sure he'd like to go higher, just depends if the interest is there.

I don't think we can say there's a certainty of Beto getting double figures at all. You'd hope so obviously, and his record last season suggested it's a distinct possibility, but it's a long way from a certainty. He certainly wouldn't be the...

18 the season before. I'm not advocating us signing him or saying he's the greatest player in the world, just that if we're honest we would think he was worth that if he played for us and had those sort of stats. I don't see the point in...

The media don’t sell players and clubs don’t value their players based on a newspaper article. Mbuemo would have been sold for £35 million about 3 weeks ago otherwise. Branthwaite would have been sold for the same.

I think people hugely overplay the media's role in that type of thing to be honest, that's just not how the real world works. I also think if we had a 22 year old who'd already had a season where they got 18 goal involvements at the top level and...

Do nice genuine lads have to be poor?
  • Lanolin
Thing is though, that won't make any difference to what the players are actually worth it will it? No football club is sitting there using the Echo to value potential signings, so whether they say it's a fair price or not makes absolutely no...

I think people are missing the point that was being made to be honest. He was getting stick for signing Augustin, a player they spent about £20m on but who they never actually owned. The point was that it was a bad deal, not that he was a bad player.
  • Lanolin
That's a totally different thing to be honest. Gana doesn't need sell on value because he's already out of contract, it's not the same thing at all. Obviously some players can be brought in who won't have sell on value but they need to be the...
