I'm near certain the 2 years was just what was in the pre-agreed triggering clause.
Could be a few reasons but one might be we didn't really fancy him, but we were forced to play him because of injuries elsewhere, and didn't want to be stuck...
Most pleasing thing here is 19 goals conceded in that half a league. Across a full season that's 38 which would have been less than anyone except Arsenal.
Honestly reckon this was a factor in our pursuit too. It was always going to be done very fast. Minimal opportunity cost to have a crack for the ~week or so it would take and then move on if needed.
Yeah really, although I'm also excited to see how that pans out too. 18 year olds are just so much harder to judge, I'm more confident Iroegbunam will be very good than Armstrong. That's a reflection on my football-watching abilities more than...
Honestly he's easily the player I'm most excited to see develop over the next 3-4 years. Still only 21 and the holes in his game are the things players tend to develop the most as they get into their mid-20s.
If you’re seeing lads lighting up latter stages of European tournaments on your tv and think ‘oh Everton should get him’. You’re too late.
Cherki will be able to choose whoever he wants to play for. There’s no way he’d ever come here, he could...
For the interest
Worth repeating we really probably won't do much until the psr window closes at the end of the month. Hopefully they can get things lined up before then, but I wouldn't expect to see anything publicly til then.
For the interests of discussion...I'm subbed to a newsletter by people who have worked a lot at the top level of player recruitment, and this was their read on the Delap to Utd rumours:
Feels about right. Unlikely to be a superstar perhaps...
I have never, in all my years watching football, seen a striker with worse movement. The problem was that the year before we signed him, he had a season where he just kept scoring absolute worldies from outside the box and there was never any way...
It's been said hundreds of times but any promising young player going to Utd wants their head checked. Can't believe they keep doing it.
This was a really interesting one because it exposed so badly the gulf at the time between recruitment teams...
Can't see any world Moyes okays this. The guy does less than zero defensive work. Like you'd have to build a whole gameplan around having 1 less player on the pitch for any defensive tactic.
Unbelievably nice with the ball though.
